I got a new soldering iron today, haven't soldered since I was in year 9, over 4 years ago!

I got some on/off switches to turn fan LEDs on and off, two wires, but three pins on the switch, which do I solder to?

It says on the switch: SP - 1 T1 and has three pins on it. Help!

Middle and either one of the others, mount it so the soldered 'other' is uppermost for a 'down for on, up for off' action, usually.

Or if you want to be normal and have up be on and down be off, then orient the switch such that the unsoldered leg is on top.

Think of it this way: draw an imaginary line that's imposed on the plunger, and extend it to the body of the switch. That end of the line will point to the contact that's connected to the middle contact of the switch.

Yea, I got the idea! But tbh it won't matter which way it is because I can just turn the switch upside down if I soldered it the wrong way, when I put it onto my new computer - 6 switches to turn the lights off in the case. Which will be located at the bottom of the case.

I also bought a key switch, so I turn the key to turn the computer on, I tested it and its pretty cool!

Hmmmm. Says the up/on down/off convention started with knife switches, because you didn't want them falling on.

    Cool!

Ah.... well personal prefrence, i guess.

if you havent soldered since you were 9, over 4 years ago, assumingly thats a max deviance of 1 year, so between 13 and 14 yeah? in that case, why are you taking A-Levels?

I think he meant school year 9 rather than the age 9.

I disagree with this one, a vertical switch should have on being on top, in case it's a dangerous thing, then if you lean on the switch, it'll just switch something off (rather than on). :p

That depends on what's running off the switch, in a computer, it is better to accidentaly switch stuff on rather than off, fans etc.
