Well I personally wouldn't trust the socket lugs to hold anything that weighs a massive 650g :jawdrop:

Would be much better if it used the mounting holes round the socket IMHO.

I saw this and was really interested until I saw that part about the retention clip. I think Swiftech is shooting themselves in the foot with the new mounting mechanism. That's a frickin' heavy chunk of copper and aluminum. Wish they would have kept the bolt on mechanism. :(

On a happier note, the idea of using the spring loaded screws to adjust the pressure of the heatsink on the processor is interesting. Should hopefully keep people from squashing amd cores. :duh:

It still uses the socket lugs which arent really designed for the weight.

Plus if you tighten it up too much you'll probably rip off the lugs and your motherboard will be useless.

I was excited when I saw the images of it when it was posted on my own forums the other day, however on reading it, it's not too great, I'm not sticking anything that size on my socket lugs, deffo not! :eyebrow: :eeek:

fingers crossed that the P4 one will have a more sensbible mounting method

it isnt like its a huge inconveneice to take teh motherboard out to put it on, and once it is on then you can take it on and off anyway without removing the motherboard

Oh you are SERIOUSLY having a laugh now. 650g on socket lugs. That's 6 pieces of plastic! Pfff not a chance.

yep, i think swiftech are having a laugh at us. Still ive email'd them to ask why they are using the crappy lug design. i bet i get a reply like this

"due to the design of the heat sink the 4 mounting hole method is un-useable"

Surely they could make something from some kind of Aluminum that simulated socket lugs from the 4 MoBo holes to stop the dangers of lug-ripping... Even a re-inforcing thing would do, might help in some way... Looks damn fine though; if they do a version with 4-hole mounts i think i'll have to make a purchase... :D

well that's your designers fault then, they've clearly gone AGAINST AMD's design spec, so how can you expect people to use this poorly designed lump of metal on their beloved 50mm squared piece of silicon... is what my reply to that would be to that :)

part of the blame must fall upon AMD aswell, they've removed the 4 holes from the amd specs (or something like that its 1:40am cant think)
