Its probably a liablitly thing. I guess (and it is a guess cos i have never used the mounting holes on my mobo) that its too easy to over tighten the bolts and crush the core (or at least easier than when using the clip). You can imagine the calls they would get from all the noobs saying "well i only did it finger tight" and blaming AMD for a non idiotproof design etc etc... (a bit like the thermal compound they recomend you use) Intersting though that swiftec didnt include the mounts anyway to fit on the motherboards that have got the mounting holes. You would not have thought it would cost an awful lot extra to make. Besides they arent paying any attention to the weight limit that AMD recommend. Seems a daft desicion to make to me on ther part.
I actually think it's harder to crush a core with an alpha/swiftech, than it is with something like a taisol760/something similar. My screws on my alpha are spring loaded, and you can only go down so far anyway
so it is probably likely that when a P4 version comes out it will have mounting holes im thinking. every P4 board has holes.
after i got the reply from swiftech i email'd them back asking if their will be a bracket to use the mounting holes but im still waiting for a reply.
Actually, AMD removed the NEED for the 4 holes from the spec. The spec still has the holes present, but they are now optional.
aha, that's me getting muddled up, they removed them from the necessary specs, but are now just an optional extra
Still sucks ass though; i certainly won't buy one seenas they're not making a 4-hole mounted version, no way my lugs could deal with that; i like my MoBo too much to render it completely useless for cheap coolers!
the middle lug on the top side of my socket has been shaven off from using an other cooler so ill "JUST" have to get the + version
