I had a Core 2 Quad Q6600 G0 and got that up to 4Ghz stable. I got an i7 920 D0 upgrade a few days ago and its been 'running in' fine at stock. Now i want to try overclocking it but don't know where to begin, there are a few options I'm not sure about regarding enabling/disabling, any help would be much appreciated. The ones in bold are the things I'm most unsure about.

    System Specs
    Intel i7 920 D0 @ 2.67Ghz (Swiftech Apogee GTX waterblock, First loop)
    ASUS Rampage II Extreme
    Corsair DDR3 1600 Mhz 3 x 2GB Kit
    Enermax Revolution 1250 Watt
2 ASUS Dark Knight 4870 512MB (Watercooled EK block, Second loop)
    ASUS Xonar DX2 PCI-E

Here are the current BIOS settings

    Thanks guys

Although its for a P6T, I posted my setting in this thread a while ago.

You should be able to translate that to your BIOS easily enough.

    Thats for a 3.8 OC.

I have speedstep enabled though, so it will idle in a low power state. If you don't want that, then manually set the CPU multiplier.

As a rough guide however, here's how I'd change your list as a starting point for a 3.8 OC

    AI Overclock - Manual
    CPU Ratio setting - 19
    CPU Turbo-Power Limit - Disabled
    BCLK Frequency - 200
    PCIE Frequency - 100
    DRAM Frequency – DDR3 1600Mhz
    UCLK Frequency - 3400
QPI Link Date Rate - LOWEST SETTING - this has little effect on speed... UCLK above is way more important.

    DRAM Timing Control

EPU II Phase Control – Full Phase
    Load-line Calibration - DISABLE
    CPU Differential Amplitude - 800mV
    Extreme OV - Disabled
    CPU Voltage - 1.34
    CPU PLL Voltage - 1.8
    QPI/DRAM Core Voltage - 1.35

    IOH Voltage - 1.2
    IOH PCIE Voltage - Auto
    ICH Voltage- 1.2
    ICH PCIE voltage - Auto

DRAM Bus Voltage - 1.65v (Must be within 0.5v of QPI voltage)
    DRAM REF Voltage - Auto

    Debug Mode - String
    Keyboard TweakIt Control - Disabled

    CPU Spread Spectrum - Disable
    PCIE Spectrum - disable
    CPU Clock Skew - normal
    IOH Clock Skew - normal

    C1E Support - Enabled
    Hardware Prefetcher - Enabled
Adjacent Cache Line Prefetcher - Enabled
    Intel Virtualization Tech - Enabled
    CPU TM Function - Enabled
    Execute Disabled Bit - Enabled
    Intel HT Technology - Enabled
    Active Processor Cores - All
    A20M - Disabled
    Intel Speedstep Tech - Disabled
    Intel C-STATE Tech - Disabled

Try that.... see how you get on.

The link to my old thread at the top also has some useful info, so don't just look at the pics :)

thanks for that, i got it upto 4.2 stable now :) idle 37*C, load 69*C
gonna leave it here for a week to let it run in some more and then see how far it can go. For everyday use im going to keep it at 4Ghz, perfect for my RAM speed.
