So, I'm down in California visiting my dad and playing in the water a lot. One of the things I wanted to do while I was down here was pick up a rack-mount case for my new fileserver, something with 6-8 hot swap SATA bays in the front and a 4u form factor so that I could use the mini-ITX board I got from Bindi. The good news is I found just the case I wanted and got it for $100 at the computer scrap store. The better news is that it wasn't empty! Inside the case is a Tyan motherboard with 4 Opteron 850 2.4 GHz CPUs, 32 GB of memory and a 3Ware 8 port SATA RAID card! If you've been around Bit long enough to remember my last desktop build (all the way back in 2005) you know I have an irrational love for multiple processor systems. My current main rig is a dual Opteron 285 with 8GB of memory, but it's getting a bit flaky in it's old age. I may take this new mobo and build it into a new-ish desktop for myself, especially since Opty 885s can be had for around $20 a pair. The only downside is that the new mobo doesn't have a PCIe slot so I'm stuck with either the integrated ATI graphics or whatever I can get in a PCI graphics card. Obviously this is a serious limitation, and possibly a dealbreaker, but I'm sure I can find a good home for this puppy.
Hi. I'm Cthippo's new desktop machine. I've got amazing spec: QUAD CPU 32GB RAM PCI Graphics 8xSATA Nice find though.
Ask and you shall recieve! Did I mention 4 PSUs? Yeah, it has 4 PSUs Note the fancy aftermarket Cooler Master HSFs and it weighs a goddamn TON! According to the specs it has ATI Rage XL integrated graphics with a blistering 8 Mb of memory!
That is awesome, and about correct! Probably. Not sure it's worth sinking any significant money into. Maybe I'll start a Minecraft server with it After a quick look around, I don't think anyone makes a 4-way socket 940 Mobo with PCIe slots on it. No one but me would want one.
