40k miles on a set of Dunlops? :hehe:

The last set of Dunlops I had on my car lasted about 10k miles. Driving style and conditions were a factor though!

The Uniroyal Rainsport 3's that I'm now using on the van are giving me between 10-15k when I take it easy on them. I scrubbed the first set of fronts off earlier this summer in just over 5k. That's what about a month of hard driving with a heavy load (the tools, not me!) will do!

oh dear, it must get expensive for your motoring.

What about used tyres? Worth trying local garages and see if they have a good pair of branded used tyres with good tread left? Colleague tells me his car usually costs £45 per tyre new but he gets used tyres for £25.

Never, ever buy used tyres. You don't know the tyres history, whether it's been kerbed or driven through a lot of potholes, whether it has been repaired or what damage there may be to the casing which can't be seen.

Part worn tyres are better than you give credit for, I've had part worns on my Fiesta ST and Saxo VTR and had no issues. Much like everything else find a reputable place and you won't be stung.

With what you are saying you may as well never buy a secondhand car as you don't know how many times the clutch has been slipped or how if the car was run ragged everywhere or if it was maintained well.

Just a little! The "Road Trip" expenses app on my phone estimates that my running costs are almost £400 per month which includes fuel, maintenance/repairs, tax and insurance. And that's only an LGV!

I also wouldn't ever trust part worn tyres; a friend of mine had a nasty accident on the motorway one night because a part worn tyre blew out and put him into the central reservation at about 70mph.

Okay, no part worn tyres! Blow out are definitely not something I want, and I've not found a garage I would trust yet.

Going to book the tyre change for next Friday this weekend, still unsure which to go for....... not the most expensive performance tyre that's for sure, thanks to info from this thread :D

If its any use I have Avon ZV5's on the rear of mine and ZV7's up front staggered fitment like yours 225 front 245 rear. Only difference is I'm running an estate with the XL rated tyre (because estate) Had them on since January now comfortable and quiet wear rate seems fine so far on them not had any complaints.
Life on the tyre though can be massively affected by the pressures and tracking on the car though don't forget.

I have Yokohama all weather YK580's on my 15" steel wheels for the van... It wears black steelies during the winter and 15" alloys with lower profile summer tyres in the warmer months. I only ran them for about a month this year but the guys at the tyre centre I use raved about them and said that I should try a set. They were excellent for the month or so that I had them on, provided plenty of grip in the wet (comparable to Uniroyal Rain Experts) and are supposedly longer lasting.

On the RS6 I run Michelin Pilot Super Sports. They're ace, but expensive (and perhaps overkill for a more 'sensible' wagon). I've been really pleased with the grip and wear level thus far though :thumb:

Dunlop SportBluResponse seem to perform well for the price, not the last word in out right performance but a nice quiet, grippy tyre, the prior tyre on my family wagon was Michelin Energy Saver or something like that, impressive life and ability for an Eco tyre, was pricy but lasted longer than most.

Performance wise I quite like Continental ContiSport 5 and most of the Michelin Pilot Sport range (PS3/PS4/PSS)
