Taipei, Taiwan, 06 November 2003 - VIA Technologies, Inc, a leading innovator and developer of silicon chip technologies and PC platform solutions, today announced the launch of the VIA EPIA TC Mini-ITX Mainboard featuring unprecedented levels of integration, reducing the number of internal components required by the system and making it highly suited to Thin clients, LCD PCs, and other space and energy efficient designs.

"With the VIA EPIA TC, VIA has integrated more components onto the board than ever before, offering unprecedented application versatility while helping to further slim down Mini-ITX system designs," said Tim Handley, Marketing Manager Processor Platforms, VIA Technologies, Inc. "VIA provides a one-stop-shop or system builders, alleviating the need to source additional components from third parties and speeding up the development process and time to market through reduced system validation time."

Helping to achieve slimmer, fanless designs, the VIA EPIA TC mainboard features a built-in 12V DC-DC power converter, eliminating the need for bulky power supplies that need a noisy cooling fan, and providing 60W of power on the 17cm x 17cm board. A horizontal SODIMM slot on the underside of the mainboard and the optional CardBus (PCMCIA) and CompactFlash slots help to achieve the VIA EPIA TC's unique low profile design by providing expandability without using the vertical PCI slot.

A wide range of storage options is supported, including DOM support, two IDE ports allowing for hard drive and DVD-ROM connections, and an optional CompactFlash slot. This makes the VIA EPIA TC configurable for a diverse range of embedded or client designs, including those with no moving parts, backup storage through a local hard drive, connectivity to an array of modern-day peripheral devices, or wireless connectivity through an optional CardBus Type II (PCMCIA) slot.

The VIA EPIA TC incorporates the fanless VIA Eden(TM) ESP processor, essential for ultra reliable and noiseless systems. The mainboard is also available with the VIA C3(TM) processor that caters for more performance intensive applications such as digital media management.

The VIA EPIA TC comes with the VIA CLE266 chipset featuring integrated VIA UniChrome(TM) 2D/3D graphics and an embedded MPEG-2 decoder that provides flawless DVD playback. Other features on the board include support for DDR266 RAM, USB2.0 and onboard LAN.
