Ehhhh no offense but did you drink something? Vista will be shipped probably at the end of next (2006) or maybe even in 2007. BETA 1 for MSDN subscribers is a very small release. Also a BETA this early is a great step by Microsoft. With Beta like this not only various security holes, glitches can be found, but also easily fixed so official release that reaches end users is finalized, secure (well more) and stable. Also this Beta is only intended for software creators so they could get familiar with new features and start creating software so upon full version release, end user would have compatible drivers and software available.

If you prefer buying OS not finished, it's your problem.

...it's like evaluating a mod during it's production... OH your case mod sucks... you cut the side window and stuff but the computer is not working... I will go buy Dell.

Let's all go eat Ice cream till Fall of 2006 comes :D

    No hard feelings...eh? :thumb:

Yes I realise that this hasn't been released yet to us punters in the general public. Shipped, released. You say tomato, I say tomato. Let's call the whole thing off.

After reading the article by Chris about what this release is like I got the impression that it's as buggy as hell and unstable. And this is what Microsoft have released to get programmers writing software for?

So Microsoft are releasing an OS for the specific reason to get people to write compatible software for it, that may not even be what they gave them in the first place.:eyebrow:

for as many things windows lacks in comparison to OSX it has advantages. I'd love to see OSX do, in my workplace, that which windows server 2k3 does in terms of setting up/managing domains, file servers, user groups etc etc etc. SMS 2003? Exchange 2003? I could go on and on. I'd also love to see the wide range of hardware support that gives me the advantage of choosing the best price/product for my necessities. Not only hardware, there is software support as well and manny manny more advantages.

You compare windows to what you would say is a "supirior" os.. i use windows because its flexibility, options and diversity make me a very happy user.

Oh, and Ive seen OSX crash just as many times as I've seen WinXP crash. Dead honest here. Ive used both OS's and they're both crashable.. so that is a moot argument.

But, we should be staying on topic here and not bringing up this age old opinion based argument that will never be resolved.. because its opinion based. If you were a mature individual you would accept that and keep your remarks that are sure to offend and send chills up the spines of those who you know visit this forum and you also know disagree 100%. Voicing your opinion once is enough... voice it over and over and thats when you become a fanboy.

    Back ON topic now...

Yes Vista is buggy right now. An early beta targeted to MSDN subscribers gives them a look under the hood at the new APIs, modification to the HAL, and the parts necessary to develop program structure. Hence why it would be released on MS D (as in DEVELOPER) N. This way there's software for it at release which can take advantage of some of the changes.

Personally, I'm thankful that for once they're doing it early enough to actually adjust for problems that they find, unlike when they released XP. If you think back to early 2001, NOBODY had things that really looked like they belonged in the XP interface, because the whole beta process was rushed and crammed into less than 8 months from B1 to RC2. That led to a very unfinished product when it first came out. This idea of releasing betas early enough to actually fix things is quite a step forward, IMHO.
