This story describes next gen of XP called "Windows XP Media Center Edition". Some sounds cool and some brings the typical response that is common with M$... case and point.. "Microsoft bowed to the pressures of Hollywood by limiting what users could do with recorded television programming and the DVD burner. The system allows users to record TV shows to a blank DVD but only for storage, not replay purposes. Your episodes of Friends or The Osbournes can be played from that DVD only on the machine that did the recording, not on a consumer DVD player or even another Media Center machine. Why do I suspect that the workaround for that bit of protection will be available before the OS is even released...
take a look at how much this damn thing costs... with all the restrictions and everything. uh, I give it 2 months (like divx.. does anyone even remember that?!)
