New York City is on the verge of going fully wireless, according to a deal being finalised this month between authorities and a group of six technology companies.

    Full story here.

Wireless access all over the city!!! Sounds good to me, wish I was there :baby:

in NYC!? That's just about the last place I'd install a wireless project. Honestly. NYC is just one big signal obstruction.
If it were me, I'd install it in a city with fewer skyscrapers... like Fort Worth, TX (or even Dallas, if you could put a couple antennas on top of buildings...)
Phoenix would be good if it weren't so spread out...
Lincoln, NE would actually be most excelent... but the UNL campus would cover most of the territory already...

Ah well. I'll be watching to see what people think of the signal strength...

Edit: LMAO at the interview at the end! She's "Freaked out"!? Wait. Wait. Does milk - freak her out - as well? I mean, just think of everything those poor cattle go through! What about their microwaved brains!?

    Move it to Williston, VT
That way I have free wireless all over town.... although most places I can latch on to someone's anyways.

I really hope this is the first of a series of moves that go to free internet for all :)

There's a small town in Colorado that's had it for a couple years now. But that was a private investor who felt generous and set up high-gain antennas on the surrounding mountains... I'm not sure if he ever started charging users for accounts or not though...
