Hi All, After reading this forum for a while I thought this would be a right place to get a little expert help. I am looking for some advice in regards to my next upgrade. Please take a look at my specs below and let me know what you think. Apologies, I many use the PC for gaming and also when I need to take work home but the main power of the PC would be needed for gaming. Modd1uk The PC is currently running at 4gb would you say this is the best bang for buck to increase this to 8gb, also would you stick to buying the same Ram type and make and just get another 2x2gb
Best thing you can do is give us a budget to work on so we can give you the best bang per buck. Please include any extras like Monitor, keyboard etc. Cheers, Simon.
For gaming the GPU is always going to be the key. What resolution are you playing and are you happy with the GTX 460? The next things I'd upgrade are SSD and 8 GB of memory.. Annnd at that I'd just go for a 8 GB kit rather than push my luck with 2*2 to go with the old ones. Memory problems can be such a bitch I wouldn't gamble it with the current DDR3-prices. (unless ofcourse you can find the exact same model somewhere)
Thanks all for your comments so far, as I have a wedding to pay for next year my budget really is about £100 till the end of the year then about another £100 for upgrades at the start of next. Im happy with my GPU so i think ill look for some new RAM As far as the other things go mouse/keyboard etc I have all these but from what you guys are saying it looks like the next thing would be a ram upgrade. To my knowledge, the only machine out there with the nerfed 560M is the Best Buy version of the Asus G74SX (the -BBN7), which costs $1199. Other versions of the G74SX, such as the -XA1 available on Amazon.com, have the full-power 560M. No, the nerfed 560M is not as powerful as other 560Ms, but on the other hand, it still outperforms a 555M. Malibal, like Sager, resells Clevo-based laptops. The Lotus P151HM1 is nearly identical to the Sager NP8130. Sager/Malibal/etc have some die-hard fans on this website. Elsewhere on the interwebz, I've heard much more critical comments about Clevo-based machines. Personally, I have no first-hand experience to tip the scales either way. As for memory and processors, given your budget, do NOT get sucked into the "more is better" mentality. That's fine when you're dropping $2000+ on a high-end machine, but for your price, worry about GPU and screen quality. For memory, 4-6 GB should be adequate. I've seen some testing showing that going above 6 GB had no effect whatsoever on how modern games perform, but now I can't remember where I saw it. And if you change your mind a year down the line, it's easy to upgrade later with just about any quasi-gaming machine. Indeed, it's generally cheaper to upgrade RAM yourself instead of buying more when you buy the laptop.
Lol, Doesn't Crysis 2 require you to have at least 8GB of memory to run the game with DX11 and the texture pak?
