Right i'm a total freshman when it comes to Overclocking.

I have the hardware in my sig, according to my intial reading i'm set for this.

    The e6300 runs at 7.0 x 266mhz = 1.86Ghz,
My memory is 800Mhz so can support a 400mhz fsb right?

    So my potential max OC is 7.0 x 400mhz = 2.8Ghz,

So i should be safe aiming for 2.5Ghz?

If this is completely wrong, please let me know!

    - you can pretty much push all the way to 3ghz on this cpu given a decent cooler

probably the best around in the uk just now

I'm running the Akasa 965, I'm looking to upgrade once the whole i5 settles down so this is to get a last few months out.

As mentioned above that chip will overclock quite nicely. My current build was my first overclock and I found getting the 6400 (a very similar CPU) over 3Ghz was very easily achieved without changing any voltages.

With Corsair Dominators and only two sticks I'm sure you will be easily able to achieve over 900MHz on the RAM. Just loosen the timings a bit if necessary.

I can do nearly that with four sticks of Corsair XMS2.

tbh i think the 965 would allow you to hit 3ghz without too many problems. just go slow and work out your optimum speed/heat.

only problem i cant see is with that 965p chipset. should be ok though
