News Newegg launching in Taiwan, possibly UK too

Newegg is officially launching in Taiwan, while Bit-Tech has heard it may come to the UK too.

Don't rejoice too early, what I read here from the canadians, Newegg Canada is a lot less attractive pricewise than Newegg USA.
Why should it be different here?

Then again, They seem to have a lot of rebate programmes which I don't know from european etailers.

What does sound interesting is a good competitor to Scan.

Although I do expect to continue with Scan personally, I welcome the promotion at the I-Series, pro gamer teams etc etc.

 

What's wrong with Ebuyer, Overclockers, Dabs etc?

 

Are they really on the same scale as Scan? Maybe Ebuyer, but they're not quite as niche as Scan?

Maybe I should have gone with "another" rather than "a".

My point stands though, that a competitor trying to get into the market is a good thing for the consumers, at least in the short run.

 

None of those are New Zealand... I don't need them.. I have Playtech.

 

lol funny how the article said overseas to Canada, when (if I'm not mistaken), Canada and the US have the longest borders between 2 countries.

I don't think Newegg has any Canadian warehouses, so Canadians would have to deal with the conversion of currency and getting their package over the border. Newegg rarely ships outside to the outside of continental US, including Hawaii, Alaska, and Puerto Rico, though with their Canadian support, Alaska might not be excluded as often. UK, Thailand, and China will likely have their own warehouses.


As a side note, Canadians have ncix.ca. There is also a ncix.us but I think it suffers the same problems as Newegg to Canadians.

 

Exactly, nothing. You can add Amazon to that too.

This will be a complete waste of time IMO. The U.S doesn't really have that many retailers of PC parts and Newegg got in there pretty early (though I used to use Directron and Tigerdirect sometimes when I lived out there).

Here though? the market is already swamped, so unless they can offer cheaper prices (they won't) then there's no point.

Newegg - take a look at what happened to your mate Best Buy and just don't do it.

Reminds me of when Best Buy came to Lakeside and then left a few years later.

 

They pretty much control every mall out in the USA.

Here though things are different. We don't like being dictated to by one company.

2nd largest? I had no idea...I guess that explains why they have the marketplace and started selling things like toasters and whatnot.

I buy the vast majority (like, 90%+) of my parts from Newegg - I'll price-check Amazon, but since Amazon charges me tax and isn't much faster (depressingly, given that I'm 30 miles from their main DC, while Newegg is most of the way down the west coast in the Bay Area), their prices have to be a healthy amount better. Plus Amazon's search, at least on PC parts, is absolutely atrocious. I hunt it down on Newegg and search Amazon by the exact part number.

And how the hell is it that the UK is flooded with e-/retailers like this and I've got...what, 3? Newegg, Amazon sorta, and Fry's. Best Buy is laughable and Tigerdirect's prices suck, from what I've seen...plus their site is hideous, to the point that it looks like a fly-by-night scam.

 

Yet another large etailer, offering the same as every other large etailer. Big whoop.

Also does this expansion mean even more search engine polution when I'm looking for reviews?

 

Meh, just one more place to check whether I'm getting the cheapest deal on my chosen bits.

 

A bit more competition in a marketplace is always good. I'm hoping that they'll offer some good deals when they start up (assuming they do) to gain a foothold.
