I have a question about newegg reviews. Are they trustworthy? Some times, ill look at bit tech, and go "Hey, they gave that a good review, and i need that." And then i pop over to new egg, and its not very well rated. Ive learned to listen to bit-tech more, but i always want to stray to the newegg side for the sheer amount of reviews. *I leave out all the DOA and reviews from people who havent bought the item*
Well the thing you have to remember about newegg reviews is that they form the popular opininion, not necessarily the INFORMED opinion. So come to BT for the tech data, the benchmarks etc, and look at newegg for stuff like ease of use for the average consumer, and so forth. Also remember that BT may only test one specific piece of hardware, which may test fine, but you look at newegg and see that 60% of the people there are having problems with it, or vice versa. So what you get at newegg is a broader spectrum of users, which may reveal a trend with that product that may not be apparent from the review here at Bit-Tech. In short: Read both [EDIT] Disclaimer: I haven't yet had my morning caffeine, so I decline all responsibility for any incoherent rambling that may have been found above.
I speak Ramble, so no worries there. The reason I posted this is because I searched Speakers on bit tech, and found that nice pair of 2.0 speakers. I went on new egg, and it wasnt the best rated. I think i might spring for them unless someone has a decent pair of 2.0 or 2.1 speakers to reccomend.
Also bear in mind that people don't necessarily post reviews when the product performs as expected. Newegg's reviews are usually from people who are either exceptionally pleased or pissed off. They are still useful, but should be taken with a grain of salt.
Newegg also caters to the general masses and most of them have no idea what they are talking about. If it isn't a perfect match for them, it's all screwed up. Really, don't take the reviews too seriously. Some are useful, and it would be good to check them for problems.
Whenever I look at Newegg reviews, I always sort by "helpfulness". The first ones to be listed are generally the most intelligent and informed reviews of any you'll read for a particular product.
QFT. I always read customer comments at places like Amazon, ebuyer, etc, along with forum comments, but it's more for the few grains of gold in a lot of dross. "User experience" often beats a full pro product review in usefulness to me, but it needs to be confirmed by several users. If people have bought a product I'm considering, it's prima facie evidence of their good taste and high intelligence.
A small sampling of customer reviews on Newegg doesn't generally mean a whole lot. However, when there gets to be a couple hundred and there are consistent problems with the area of the item, I take it under advisement. I look at Bit-tech and other well-informed sites for official information and then add the anecdotal info from Newegg and the like as far as slightly longer term reliability or things like arriving with dead pixels. But people above are correct... it's usually the people who actually have problems, don't know what they're doing or those that like to nitpick that take the time to post. Take it with a grain of salt.
you have to take with a grain of salt because some of the "reviewers" don't own/have never tried the product that they are "reviewing" just opining with no real knowledge.
^^exactly... plus the ones that are just plain idiots and shouldn't be allowed to operate a microwave, much less deal with computers and other electronic gear.
True, and thats a good thing. I was leaning more on the general use of Newegg Reviews, thats all. Some do try, and fail...
I like the fact that newegg now added a thing below the reviewers name that says 'this user has bought this item from newegg' I tend to only listen to those.
