This has been in the news before but AFAIK it was more specifially for the UK. M4RTIN, it should be good news for us with lower prices. I'd daresay that the main competition will be with ebuyer who seem to have one of the cheapest prices arround, hopefully Neweggs support will be better.

I was going to say "great" - but then I realised it's not, because it means that the US store will never ship internationally.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I've been looking at RAM prices over the last few days and checking out both US and Uk sites. I've been seeing packs of ram that cost £195 here and cost only £100 there.

If newegg shipped to the UK I could buy those, and even if I got hit fullly on tax I'd still be saving a bundle. Now though, they'll never ship to the UK. So instead we get to continue being absolutely and completely raped by the shops, and our stupid governments will do nothing about it. Bah!

Got to agree there spec. RAM prices in this country are sickeningly high atm, especially given the US exchange rate.
Someone in the US should set up a company that orders items, then ships them across the channel for a small fee ($10?).

Nice, but then you have the problem of American firms refusing to deliver first time unless goods are sent to the cardholders address. If Newegg does this then its sorta impossible for a cardholder in the UK to purchase anything from Newegg since they don't ship internationally in the first place.

newegg will drive the prices down of ram in the UK due to how much it orders and how cheap they will be able to sell it

Yeah, they can cut the price by £10, make more than any other firm, and still be the cheapest. But that leaves us being ripped off by £80 still.

And nice link doug, but unless I'm mistaken they charge £10 for registration basicly and then £30 an order(or more). Quite pricey. Still better than UK prices in many cases, but still fairly bad.

    According to Neweggs FAQ
So in theory if you arrange for the PO box to goto your banks secondary details it should be alright. May be more hassle then its worth

Thanks for looking that up, might be useful if there are savings to be made from Newegg USA on anything I want in the future.

*ahem* Seeing as I'm in a good mood, I'll let you all in on my little secret :D

    http://www.internationalcheckout.com/

You tell them what you want and pay them the full amount (+ shipping to the UK). They buy it, repackage it and send it to your address (and if you're lucky they sometimes give you free american sweeties - Twinkies ft w!).

Best part of it? It always sneaks under Custom's radar.

    A little example:
A brand new 8800GTS for £261 delivered. :thumb:

Newegg won't come storming in with low low prices, if there is money to be made at UK prices then that's what they will charge.
We might see a slight decrease, something like 5 - 10% if we are very lucky, even that would be nice as it would force the rest like ebuyer, dabs, komplett etc to follow suit.

We heard the same stories when WalMart took over ASDA, and what happened?
Not a lot to be honest.

Exactly right yoda - we'll see them become one of the cheaper retailers, sure, but they won't bring US prices. Why bother when there's a fat slice to be made?

A big thumbs up to Doug and Nutech - both useful things to know. :thumb:

What if Newegg were to build a warehouse in EU or something. o_o

I bet the prices would come tumbling down.

Tell me about it’s an absolutely disgusting state of affairs! Recently I wanted to buy a rather expensive guitar, it cost about £1500 over here in blighty. The same guitar (an Ernie ball music man JP-6 with the mystic dream paint for those who are curious :p) cost about the same in dollars from amazon.com that’s ~ £750 saving with current exchange rates.

It’d be cheaper for me to book a cheap flight to America and buy one over there and bring it back with me. I mean WTF is that all about! There’s no way tax and shipping and all that crap can double the price! :eyebrow:

I know this is off topic and I’m sorry I’m just glad there other people here who are as pissed off as me! Think I’ll give one of those sites a try :)

I'm quite sure they would build many warehouses/stock locations all over the EU anyway.

If you could sell a product for $300 and people buy it would you sell it for $200 ?

Yoda your right here... but your example was wrong.. asda already have a grounding within the uk ... compared to newegg whereby they would starting from fresh... + expanding your company isn't the same as buying out another.
