Well this summer I plan on getting my first full time job (I've only worked part time out our grocery store, don't own anymore). If I get a job that pays enough so I can make $1000 in about two months time I'll be set on ordering my first new Apple. Yay! :) We've used eMacs at our school for about two years now with the many versions of Mac OS X. I got to say that this is the best OS I've ever used and is the main reason why I'm switching. So what will I be getting may you ask? Maybe an eMac? Maybe lowend iMac? Nah, Mini for me! woohoo!

    Mac Mini

    1.25GHz CPU
    512MB DDR333 RAM
    ATI Radeon 9200 onboard GPU
    40GB HDD
Apple Keyboard Set (unless someone can find me a matching mouse)
    $607

Envision EFT 720 17" CRT Monitor (I dislike LCD monitors)
    http://www.staples.com/Catalog/Brow...Displays&bcClassId=141657&bcClassName=17"+CRT
    [$120[/b]

    Logitech z-2300 2.1 Speakers
    http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...age=productlisting.aspx&instock=&refurbished=
    $108

    Canon PowerShot a400 Digital Camera
    http://www.target.com/gp/detail.htm...982605-7198250?_encoding=UTF8&asin=B00062LQJ6
    $150

    L Shaped Desk
    http://www.target.com/gp/detail.htm...gle&ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001&ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001
    $100

    Total: $1085

Right in my limit. :) I tried to keep most things local, the Target and Staples. Living in small town sucks because of the fact there's no computer stores within 60 miles. :( I got couple questions, does it cost any extra if I special ordered from a computer store? Also, I've been looking for this one Apple mouse pad I've seen on some forums (could have been this forum, but I forgot. lol.) It's the outline of Apple's logo and has a glowing white border, I think lit by elwire. Does anybody know what I'm talking about? Another question, what do you think? Thanks for looking. :)

No idea about the mousepad. Don't use an mousepad myself.
The minimacs are nice. Perfect for Office applications.

The speakers seem a bit expensive to me.
And so does the CRT. What do you dislike about the LCD?
They will save you soo much room on your desk. And if you are getting a Mini Mac, wich is tiny.. then why not go all the way and get a LCD? Just an Idea though.

Also, you are doing a fulltime summerjob.. and only get 500$ a month?
I get like about 1400-1500$ per month.. Just selling stuff in a store.

    Good luck with it!

I've got some similuar specs on my Powerbook and I use it for everything!
    (1,5Ghz G4; 768mb Ram; 80GB HD; Superdrive)

I want some nice speakers for music, and those will do the job. <3 Bass. :) I don't like LCD because I've used some in the past and I did not like how some of them looked, I hear problems all the time with dead pixels, ghosting, they don't last nearly as long as a good CRT.(start fading) A good CRT is cheaper, plus it'll go with my PC since that also has a CRT monitor. They'll both be on one desk. $500 is the minimum I need to make, but the more money the better. :) I'm still looking for a job. Thanks.

    On the desk.
when you get to the part of assembly that tells yout to add the keyboard try.. just don't bother you'll never use it..
All those prefab desks are far too short and you end up with the keyboard on top of the desk anyway, just trying to save you some hurt knees

Haha, ok I'll keep that in mind. But hopefully I'll get my dads desk. He has a L shaped computer desk that is nicer then that, but I don't know if he'll get it back. Long story.

Yeah, but I figured I can only save about $20 if I do it myself. Idk, I still might. Or not, idk. :D

Exploit Apple's online educational discount; it reduces the cost of the Mac-Mini a good $20 :)

Haha, yeah, doing that for sure. Too bad it wasn't as much as say like an eMac. $100 off. Wow.

Why dont you just get an eMac as that has a screen built in - if you want a CRT might as well do that and get a better graphics card as standard. And if you can get the save 100bucks on it then all the better!

Personally, I don't like the whole computer behind CRT design. Never have really, it's great for schools since they take up small amount of space. But, not for me, I want a mini-itx computer, because they're so small and sexy. :D What better then a Mac Mini. :) Also I just got a desk brand new from a rummage sale, I had to put it together. Got it for $10. About $50 desk. Best part is that it will hold both my computers. w00t!
