hey, I want to build a pc that is powerful enough to play these next gen pc games, what is the key to make it powerful, (besides a good graphics card)
for next gen 2gb will be the new standard, an sli mobo for upgradebility, and a dual core processor, with a strong psu
Thats the best fututre proof system you can get at the moment but dual core and SLI are expensive. If you have a high budget then fine. I'm getting a dual core in my new system but I'm thinking of dropping SLI as it will add £50 or so to the cost (without actually getting a seconds GFX card ). I think the only reason not to go dual core is budget, but try and get it if you can because it is the way of the future (well it's the way of now really ). My advice is to not scrimp now, get the best possible system you can and then you wont have to upgrade for a while. Bascially, SLI and dual core (don't bother going for a really really expensive CPU, the slowest X2 should be fine) are great, get em if you can. 1Gb of RAM at least, 2Gb would be better (2x 1Gb sticks). Try and get the 7800GTX if you can, thats what I'm getting (7900 is round the corner though, so you could wait and get that, or wait for the 7800 to drop in price).
X2 - fastest you can afford 2gig good ram 7800gt(x) -gtx if you can afford it, otherwise the gt is still fast or wait for 7900/x1900, they should both be insanely fast cards
I would go for the Opteron 165 as the added cache is nice over a 3800X2 and they clock very well maybe wait for the 7900/x1900 and still get a 7800GT/7800GTX or 1800XT , (for just a little more the 1800XT outperforms the 7800GTX) as the price of other cards should drop some when those come out
I had to revise my list 2x's so far, I now added 1,Processor: Intel celeron D 2.66GHZ 2. Video card: ATI Radeon 9550 3. 80GB Hard drive do you think these will get me by?
Erm, no. Seriously... those components are some of the least powerful you can buy. You are looking at AT LEAST an Athlon X2 3800+ with a 6 or 7-series NVIDIA graphics card or an X18XX series ATi card. Those components are not even going to play today's games at medium with a decent res, let alone something like BF2 or FEAR. Read the Bit-Tech Best Buy thread to get an idea of what you should be purchasing.
If you're talking next gen games, you're talking the better parts that are available right now. As in... exactly what we've been recommending. AT LEAST an X2 3800+, 2GB ram, 7800GT video card. Hard drive doesn't really matter, but I'd *highly* recommend one with 16MB of cache. What you're talking about is slightly below the level of what I just ordered for a fileserver (to dish out stuff to two comps max; the cheapest stuff I could buy that met my needs). I mean, yes, you can probably *start* the next-gen games with that hardware, but don't expect to actually play them. By the looks of it, UT2007 is going to make FEAR look like a walk in the park for hardware, and FEAR has a way of bring all but the best systems (read: the quad-sli displayed at CES) to their knees. You'll need to spend at least $1000 on the "core" components (CPU, MB, RAM, video) to play next-gen games at any reasonable levels. Seems to me that as you're aware you need a good graphics card, you're a bit behind the times on hardware if you think a 9550 is even borderline decent anymore, let alone good. If you were to consider something that low-performance, you might as well just go for integrated and crap it up all the way.
You're screwed. Seriously. You'd be lucky to squeeze last gen gaming out of $500. Unless you want to rob a warehouse, in which case go use the $500 on a nice monitor and steal the actual components. Sorry to put it so bluntly, but as far as $500 can go with computers, it won't go anywhere for a gaming machine.
i agree with firehead, with $300, at least $800 total, more you could get a decent gaming pc, compared to last gen parts, but would still be able to play newer games. you will need at least double the amount you have to get a the comp you want at least $1000 but more than $1000 would be better. good luck with your comp. maybe you should get a job if you dont have one, or a better paying one. F.B.
what about ati radeon x700? is that powerful enough? Also I have to change somethings I original wanted to put a card reader so that I will be able to save music, video's on the PSP memory, but I'll use USB cable. I still going with the celeron D processor only that it's bumping up to 3.20 GHZ. I changed the memory to 2gigs(maybe).Also what about nvidia's EVGA geforce 6600 or 6800. Is that even close?
now a days amd is better all around then intel. i dont think that a x700 will be powerfull enough. o and in case you have noticed amd is the best for gaming. read through the Bit- Tech Best Buy and other similar post. good luck
If you are calling anybody here a fanboy, you've come to the wrong place. Intels range of CPUs doesn't match anything* AMD have. Price and Performance wise. This has been proven countless times, on bit-tech and many other reviewers. The Bit-tech Best Buy, is a fair representation of whats literally the best. If you don't like the best, don't buy it, but then, don't complain. *unless you sell yourself/kidney.
alright. what is the most powerful amd athlon 64 that is cheap but powerful at the same time? And yes , it is a shocker finding out that intel is dropping off the face of the earth. also your going to tell me that ati is a wussy compared to nvidia right?
