Is there something special about the nexus fan that the SilenX 14dBA fan dosen't have?

No way. I know that those fans are quiet, but i just have to say YA RIGHT when I see 14dba. And look! they have a 120mm there too with only 14dba and it spits out 58cfm? YA RIGHT! I dont know where they come up with these numbers, but they are clearly off. They probably are quiet, but not 14dba. For example, I have 3 Thermaltake A1926 fans. Rated at about 70cfm at 21dba. Not even close. At full speed, these things are at least 35dba. They cant even be below 25dba because my coolermaster 80mm led is 25dba and these fans roar compared to it! I have seen the Nexus fan, and would imagine that it is about 18dba +-20%, but 14 cant be true. In fact, background noise is about 14dba. BTW: if anyone knows of a quiet 120mm blu led fan, let me know. These Tts suck (for noise) but I have some Unincom which are 33dba/77cfm.

    Edit: Did some searching:

Seems like the SilenX fans are quiet (but not as quiet as their ratings suggest) but this silence is at the price of airflow. Basically they are Adda fans that have little or no chatter noise or such when running slow. I would say to get the SilverStone and adjust for noise as you will have good airflow for the noise.

do note that: these readings are from at LEAST 3 feet away, and along with that, silenx ones are likely being measured with the rubber feet in place as well as through a closed case. As to the TT ones, the noise you hear is likely accounted to: vibration, air intake restriction, air exhaust restriction and possibly a defective fan.

and a tip - if you're buying one, buy two, and zip tie one above the ice unit blowing down onto it. Biiiig diff in temps.

Ive held the Tt ones in my hand and they still have a humming noise. All 3 of the ones I have too! The reason I bought them is because it said 21dba. I have since learned that noise levels are way overrated for most fans.

    Confused

    So,

Should I go with the SilentX fans or search for these Nexus ones? I thought the Nexus ones were good from the SFF Faq.

I like the idea of the second fan zip tied over the ICE block especially if it lowers the temps. Is there a 2nd fan power plug on the mobo or did you splice the 2nd fan power cables into the first?

Look down this forum for the SFF FAQ. On the first page of that, there's a reply all about types of fans :thumb:
