Finally got my new rig set up with my shiny NF7-S Rev2 but there is a problem :waah:

The northbridge fan makes a high pitched buzz noise like its catching on something. I took it apart and can't find the source of the problem, however if I jam it with a pen a couple of times it settles down and the rasp goes away. This is not an ideal solution so I'm looking for a passive/quiet Northbridge sink that'll fit beneath my looming Zalman 7000a (can mod potential sinks to fit with my trusty dremel if necessary).

What would you recommend for a good replacement? I've taken a look at the Zalman sinks and wondered if there are any good contenders for overclocking :hip:

    i also have nf7-s v2 and 7000a :D  .

yer, the Northbridge fan is a bit bodge. when i cold boot my fan throttles, up and down, like a siren :p.

the blue zalman northbridge passive ones look alright, you'd need a bit of :dremel: to get it to fit with the 7000a though :) or you could just butcher up a stock socketA cooler (provided you have one)

i didnt have much luck with a zalman passive heatsink, it limited my fsb to about 180. Other people have had more fun.
I got one of these swiftech jobs. its nice + quiet + does a good job + looks cool :D

Problem with them is that you can't fit one underneath a 7000A on any NF2 board other than the DFIs, because of the standard positioning of CPU socket and NB. Chopped-up Zalman or other passive heatsink (if you could get a stock DFI sink from someone that would be good, as they're excellent) is probably the best you can do, I used an Iceberq (which is just the copper version of the whiny stock fan).
