Well, just I was about to order last week, both these heatsinks came on for order for this week, and I decided to wait a few more days. The TRUE, being pretty much the "daddy" of Core 2 was what I was originally going to get, but bundled in the 1366 version of the NH-U12P you get 2 Noctua fans for a push pull set up. I mean, I've heard great things about the Noctua, and they're VERY similar in price so I wouldn't mind choosing either one, just want whichever one's best. So, TRUE /w 1 fan (Their own brand, they issue it as standard with the heatsink now) or Noctua /w 2 fans (Noctua fans )? Using a P6T Mobo, 920 Processor.
While I have a Noctua on my Q6600, I'm not using it's supplied fan (updated model). My fan is fairly quiet at 12V, but it does give a noticeable whine... My money would be on the TRUE.
TRUE with two good fans (Noctua or Scythe) will cool better than a NH-U12P. The NH-U12P will be cheaper though, as the TRUE doesn't come with fans. EDIT: Oh, oops - didn't see that you were talking about the LGA 1336 TRUE. I've no idea what the fan on that is like. The fan on the U12P is great, though.
The Noctua is actually easier to fit - the springs on the True are a bit of a ******* and it's easy to slip sideways when you're pushing down with the screwdriver. The TRUE gives better temps but the fan provided with the LGA1366 one is far inferior to the NF12Ps.
Thanks for the info. From what I've read here and what else I've found, it'll probably have to be the Noctua. 2 Noctua fans + a heatsink which is only fractionally behind the TRUE is definitely worth it for about the same price. I'll post back when I install it and see how far it OCs .
Yes, thats what I'd have gone for considering the bundle they now ship with. Two NF12Ps is awesome. Its a shame they spoiled a great heatsink by shipping it with a mediocre fan. Thermalright--
