I've been having an issue with my onboard NIC ever since I built this system. The mobo is a MSI P6N SLI Platinum with a Realtek RTL8211BL LAN chipset.

The network loses connection once basically every 24 hours. Pretty much on the dot. However it's peculiar... ports that are in use seem to continue functioning -- IRC and AIM have no issues until I disconnect them then they won't reconnect. However, no web addresses will resolve nor will my POP email client's attempts to log into the POP server.

I can't find any particular issues like this with Vista or my specific mobo/LAN chipset. I'm using a Linksys WRT54G router and none of the other PC/NICs have this issue.

    Any cluessss?

    can you ping your router?
Do you still have an IP address?
Is vista set to power the component down?
is everything correct when you do 'ipconfig /all'?

why don't you change it so that vista will not power down the NIC when it thinks it can maybe that will help
