I went to work today, my two team mates were not at the desk, only other place for them to be is the kitchen, yep they are there playing foosball. I sit down on the sofa and laughingly say lets just stay here the whole day and do nothing because no one is in, only around 9 people were in. So I have three team mates, one is at home the manager he has to go to hospital today (wife), and of the two with me, one is clever and one is not the brightest tool in the toolbox but he is straight down the line and trys. So Bloomberg is on the TV and I am saying how the heck do you get rid of the sky menu (at the bottom) because I want to read the Bloomberg tittles at the bottom, press TV, nope cant do it. So a sort of uneasy quite comes down but I am more interested in reading the Bloomberg text on the right of the screen, nice little snap shots of news. Then my team mate pips up and says. yeah you know "x", she was on that flight that had the ebola women. me- ? Me- What you mean x who is in the office? Him- Yes Well it took all of about one moment, like litterally not even a half beat for me to totally assess the complete situation and know I was leaving but more out of curiosity I just had to understand wtf is this? So I ask more questions. What was X doing in Casablanca any way, Him- She was on holiday there for xmas. Me- So she took a connecting flight that came out of fck sierra leone? Him- yes, how was she to know. I am the most relaxed person in the universe but the whole picture is not right and I need to quickly find out what is the situation here, so I walk down to the office manager and ask was X on the flight with the girl that had Ebola. Her- Yes, Me- What is X doing in the office then? Her- She is working on it. Me- Fine she can work on it but not using the fcking office internet to do it. Her- The murrican airways are not interested, and british airways are only interested if you took the flight from London to Glasgow. Me- Was she on the flight that this girl who had Ebola . Her- Yes, laughing about it like its funny. I then went back to my team mates to request they consider calling their wifes for further opinion on the correctness of staying in the same work space with this girl. I then placed two further calls one to the regional manager on break and asked for his opinion and my direct team lead, then also checking in with head office manager. I cant believe it that the office manager could have found this out. I asked her does she know were she was sitting in relation to this person that got Ebola, she seemed angry that I was asking this and said she does not know. I am hugely surprised by the lax attitude, I said its 99.99999% there is no problem but there should be a protocol in place here, you cant find out this information and not instantly deal with it. I took my self out of the site made my way home and am waiting to find out that this girl has been given a clean bill of health from the hospitals. I am no way returning back until she is confirmed tested and clear. Any one have any opinions on this?
Cool story bro. If it makes you feel any better, you are no more likely to contract Ebola than anybody else in the country. The nurse who has developed Ebola had no symptoms during the flight, ergo she was not contagious. Titter
Aye, I think you're overreacting somewhat here. If there was a problem with contagion, then those people who were on that flight might have been advised to quarantine themselves for a period of time, but as that doesn't appear to have happened then it's reasonably safe to assume that you're not going to catch Ebola from being in the same office as a person who was on a flight with a non-symptomatic Ebola carrier. Just not right now, heh?
OK. so you know she had Ebola. But what don't you know? Was she a lesbian? Has she got aids? Is she..... - gulp - .... ginger?
^ Precisely. Word. So unless the poor lady in question sharted, boked or bled on your colleague during the flight, you are just wasting your life worrying about this non-event. Still, I suppose coming home early gave you plenty of time to compose a long-winded rant on here, so that's something. I blame the media
I would be surprised if it is not able to be pass on in water droplets. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-20341423 http://thewatchers.adorraeli.com/20...through-air-and-even-spread-without-symptoms/ The fact it can mutate when in a new host? and develop is interesting. Plenty of vocals online of it not being only via contact. Ok im off to play computer games for the rest of the day and hope I don't have Ebola
The former article suggests it can be spread by aerosols from patients showing symptoms, not that it is a truly airborne virus. Very different things and doesn't affect that it is only contagious once showing symptoms. The latter is quite an old article that again mentions aerosols in addition to fairly nondescript speculation regarding the possibility of other forms of transmission due to lack of knowledge of the virus. Nothing I've seen since (spread, infection rates, effectiveness of precautions) seems to suggest that initial official assessment was incorrect. There are always plenty of vocals online.
Shouldn't there be a warning in the title of this thread? I mean, what if you have got it, and you've now infected everyone who's open this thread through the interwebs. I keep hearing about people catching these virus' off the internet,
The internet is a great source of information. It is an even greater source of disinformation. If you want reliable and safe information about health matters, look at the NHS website, not forums and conspiracy sites, populated by wazzocks who don't know their arses from their elbows.
And then your colleague would have had broken skin or he ingested some of the infected human fluid then he had little chance of contracting. But ever to the rescue of those who might still be worried, get yourself here and get kitted up. http://www.ebolasuits.com/
EbolAIDS is a nasty one, have you tried rubbing tooth paste on your belly button? Apparently it makes you immune
