Yah...perhaps this would be better under just good ol' General Discussion...I fail to see how anything serious could be said about this. ;)

I smell BS. This sounds like it stemmed from the story of the dolphins who were washed out to sea during Katrina and swam back to where their tank used to be.

Uh, why is everyone so stunned about this? The military (specifically the Navy) trains dolphins all the time. I thought this was well known...

More famous for finding mines than spys tbh, if the Dolphins are smart enough, they will know the difference between a spy and an innocent diver, and swim back to base?

I think the smelly angle is the story that they could be out thar lock & loaded, and what dolphins will do with the right two bare arms I don't know...

Some dolphins and now Sea Lions are trained to mark unauthorized divers and swimmers. They're actually used in pretty much the same capacity as dogs are on land. "MK 6 has now been expanded to include specially trained sea lions to locate water-borne intruders and suspicious objects near piers and ships that pose a possible threat to military forces in the area."

I don't know if they still do it, but dolphins were trained to lay underwater mines and kill Vietnamese skin divers durring the Vietnam War.

Ok, so these dolphins are going to shoot someone, and I know that death is bad and all, but I'll wet myself when I hear about it :hehe:

"Had an injury at work? Tripped over on an uneven pavement? Shot by a dolphin with a dartgun? Where there's a blame, there's a claim. Call 08........"

qft, you have to use trained dolphins to find the giant squids controlled by the soviets!
otherwise they'll grab your ships and rock them about til they sink :(

this pretty much did it for me. the navy would surely know that scuba divers pretty much always if they fall asleep underwater, so this doesn't work...

also, why would they be regurlarly armed?

The official line is no dolphins or sea lions have been "armed" with lethal weapons. I seriously doubt they would keep them armed in their cages. Even soldiers aren't armed at all times.

Either animal could kill a diver without any magic darts, though.
