Powered by IBM (PowerPC?) and Graphics by ATI - so it's an upgraded gamecube then, eh? Should make it easy to port games from old to new, or, if we're lucky play cube games on the new one
Also, it's codenamed Revolution so i dont know if they are trying to incite something by that, but as ever Nintendo remain tigher lipped than an Angels crotch.

Stupid question then. If both Xbox2 and "Revolution" use ATi and PowerPC, wouldn't this make it easyer to port games from one console to the other?

There's an interview on IGN that gives much more info about it.

It will be backwards compatable with all Gamecue games.

The reason it is codenamed Revolution is because it's going to be something new and different to the PS3 and Xbox2. They are just graphical updates of the PS2 and Xbox. There's nothing new about them really.

The Revolution is going to have some great features which is why Nintendo are keeping it under wraps. Nintendo always invent things that the others steal, analogue stick, rumble pack etc

And it yes it should be easy to port games between the Xbox2 and Revolution. I imagine it will be much harder to port to the PS3.

edit: It will also be shown at E3 in some way, be it just videos or maybe showing big developers an early version of the actual console aswell.

    Link and another

Yup, although they are likely to use completely different systems where Xbox will probably be more "PC" and Revolution will be completely propriatory.

Darv ya git you beat me to it:

So it'll have Wifi too \o/ which will make linking up the box to the network a hell of a lot easier - i wish my Xbox had that. Looks like im definately getting a "revolution" then.. and an Xbox2.. and the PS3 looks like a damn nice console too... :waah: help me!

Oh and apparently it will act as a router aswell for a DS. Not sure if it will be able to act as a normal router for anything else though.

You bette start saving now if you're going to get all of them :hehe:

There's a reason Satoru Iwata is the Nintendo president, and it's cause he knows what gamers want: "Iwata: Games need good ideas more than good graphics". You've got it nailed, Iwata-san.
Thing is, if the cube is 10x cheaper to develop for, and is based on current GC tech then a) games companies wont have to train people that much b) porting from Xbox to GC will be easier and visa-versa c) more games will be made for it from smaller companies who cant afford the 10s of millions = more innovation, until EA buys them out.

so does that explain why multi format games were always out on the ps2 and xbox first then bindi? was the current gamecube much harder to work with?

sounds like it may switch and the new sony console being left out if theyre not careful they might find themselves being the last in line for new games instead.

No, im saying they WILL BE. PS2 because it was out before anything else and Sony has a lot of developers working for it, even though it's the hardest to code for. PS3 will still have a lot of developers for it though as it is an extremely strong brand. Xbox is basically a PC with a tweaked engine to make it run on G3/4 tech and controllers vs keyboard and mouse. Nintendo have a fair few developers as well as an in house team for mario and zelda games which are extremely popular. The problem is there are literally 100s of GC (and PS2) games released in Japan that never make it over here :(:(

I hope it has an ethernet port on it coz I don't have a wireless network.

And while we're on the subject (sort of), if the DS goes online and we can play against each other using our home networks, will a wireless network card in my PC be enough to talk to the DS or is a router/access point thingy needed?

Actually the Gamecube is very easy to code for, much more than a PS2 but for multiformat games I imagine it's a simple case of re-compling most of the code and only changing a few areas.

I would have thought the Rev will have a normal ethernet port as well.

As for the DS going online it's a case of when not if. And yes you could do it without a router using internet connection sharing. Else you should be able to use your Rev as a router for it.
