It still won't put me off because I saw similar reviews about the DS and saying it was just a gimmick however playability of the game on the DS won over graphics and from my point of view its far more enjoyable than the PSP. I expect the Wii will be the same for me as I've always loved my cube :)

My g/f has pre-ordered the Wii for my birthday, really looking foreward to it. I understand that I'll have to fork out on another controller and deffinately zelda, but aint that the same with every console.

The day my flatmate bought the Xbox 360 we went back to buy another 3 controllers, which were £35 each. I can emagine the PS3 controllers to be around the same price also. At least with the Wii controllers you're getting a little bit more with motion sensing etc.

Can't wait till my b/day now, woo.

that review expresses all of my concerns for that console. though, i would be more judgemental and harsh on it.

i think its going to be a total novelty. once that wears off you have a gamecube. it could have been really great if it were a kind of media computer that you could watch dvd's and video files on. along with music and all the classic game emulation. but its not.

i think its some really great marketing by nintendo, and probably will be a money maker, but maybe not the kind of lasting fame people are building it up to be.

i still think the ps3 is going to be the way to go. though i wont ever get one till i can get it for free like my ps2

Looks damn good fun though. I wonder how different it is to Eye Toy games?

If people have a wii60 by Chrimbo, there will be little take up of the PS3 - noone would want 3 consoles, much less have the cash to buy games for all 3 consoles.

"PS3 will cost around £430 but the combination of a 360 premium and a Wii with two remotes will actually be close to the £530 mark. Remember, that's without a HD DVD drive and with only a 20GB hard drive instead of the 60 GB one found in the PS3"

hmm that 430 is for the 20GB hd version the tardpack if you will not the 60 GB version.

anyway that means the PS3 is 10 pounds cheaper than the Wii60. OOh shocking.

Interesting article but didn't really explain the reviewers opinion that the Wii will be in 3rd place. 150 quid is Alot less than 280 (actually 300 for extra controller and 2 games in most shops these days, and thats 2 great games) let alone breaking that 400 pound barrier with games going to be 59.99 too.
Sorry I think that the PS3 has a BIG fight

I'm assuming the back catalogue of nearly every release on Nintendo's consoles is still on the cards?

Who says you're meant to be active when playing the Wii? I've read several times that it's as easy to control with flicks of the wrist as it is mimicking tennis or golf swings.

It sounds to me like you made up your mind about Wii before you went in.

Surprised usually tripping over yourselfs saying how good the wii is/going to be so makes a change.

Im looking forward to the PS3 myself although i notice you tend to slate that alot and not point out the good stuff

I am looking forward to it, I've seen a lot of the videos from the Wii site and it looks a lot more intuitive then the article makes it sound.

Part of me thinks it will be a novelty, but then again I thought that about the DS when it first came out, and tbh it was true for the first batch of games. Hopefully developers will get used to the Wii's capabilities and give it a games collection as good as the DS :)

Personally I think PS3 is still a shoe in. Given it's almost guaranteed long term success in Japan other regions will follow. Wii will take second place overall; with the 360 having done (yup past tense) so pathetically in Japan the Wii will have to do pretty poorly in Europe and the US to take third overall.

In reality the 360 is the worst position right now. Nintendo has a simple plan, pile it high and price in right for Christmas 2006 and hope the momento carries into next year. Despite all that MS has tried to do over the past year in the eyes of many consumers the PS3 is still seen as true next generation with the 360 perhaps taking the unfortunate place of .5 gen ala Dreamcast. It doesn't help that the top model PS3 has enough jargon to really separate itself from the 360, HD movies, 60Gb HD, HDMI, Motion sensitive controller.

I'm not much of a gamer anymore (Saturn/N64/PS1 was my sweet gen) but to be honest the PS3 and Wii appeal more than the 360 ever has.

Going off previous console wars, the PS2 sold by the flippin bucketload.. did it reach 100 million? Last time I looked, it was 90 million - at that point, the XBox had sold 20 million and the Gamecube sat in third place with 18 million units sold.

The difference this time is that the PS3 is coming very late to the party, after the Chrimbo season. The last launch involved the PS2 coming out, then the Gamecube four months later, then the XBox came out over 10 months later. The XBox certainly picked up, considering it had the PS2 and GC to contend with.

This time, the XBox360 is building up its userbase and its had plenty of time to itself; the Wii being the first challenger this Chrimbo and the PS3 bringing up the rear. Of course the PS3 is going to down a storm (despite SCE's marketing division having multiple lobotomies) but I see it having a tough climb to the top.

I actually see the PS3 soaring to the #1 spot, with the 360 and Wii being in a close race for second and third. But who cares? I'm really looking forward to both (already got my 360) and I am especially looking forward to Twilight Princess. Ocarina of Time was an absolutely amazing game, and every one of those "top X games of all time" lists has it at the #1 spot. Miyamoto has said that Twilight Princess is the best Zelda game ever, so if it can beat Ocarina of Time, it has the distinction of being one of the greatest games ever made.

maybe thats something to do with the waiting for the playstation 2 and 3..

the dc was only perceived as a half gen console as it came out so long before the ps2, in reality it wasnt that much less powerful. but most people assumed it must be crap as it came out so much before the ps2, also a lot of people wanted to wait for the ps2 for whatever reason. That doesnt appear to have happened with the 360 at all and it has had massive sales compared to the original and especially the dreamcast

another real major point i'd like to point out tho is the rampant fanboyism of both microsoft and sony by people. yes i have a 360, but ive also got a ps2 and had a gamecube and xbox. i dont know why anyone feels they have to just back one console, i will be buying a wii in the new year when better games come out and in 6 months or so i'll but a ps3 again for the same reason, the launch games look crap. i did the same thing woith the 360, i waited till some better games came out.

at the end of the day you dotn have to choose between consoles, the same way you dont have to choose between pc and console, you can have both.

    VERY awesome article!

But why's it in the Hardware section of Digg? Surely it should be in Gaming?

I think the whole point of the Wii is to have multiplayer fun in that "giggly fit" style, though. At my place, for what its worth historically, the factor gives the Gamecube a lot of edge when it comes to the choice of games for the weekend LAN.

Halo on the xbox is usually good for maybe 4 rounds, but Wario Ware/Smash Bros can keep us entertained for several hours each. Plus, Wario Ware is, deceptively enough, the greatest drinking game on Earth.
