I'm having serious difficulties getting my Nintendo DS running online via my connection here in my university halls and was wondering if anyone could help me out. I've exhausted most methods I know of.

The basic idea is that I wirelessly share the connection from my Powerbook's wifi. This is quite easy to do. You go into Sharing in your System Preferences and select Internet Sharing On. You share the connection from the ethernet and share it to 'Computers using AirPort' and then configure the DS accordingly. Here's the useful site I got a lot of this info from: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20051119155606277

Now, I've done all this on my home connection before (10mbit ntl Cable on a router) and it works flawlessly. Even without setting up a DMZ on the DS's IP. But on this connection at university, I cannot get it to connect to Nintendo's WFC service. It will connect fine to my Powerbook though. I'm guessing because maybe the ports the DS uses are blocked or something? Or because my connection uses a ton of proxies to get online? ie. HTTP, HTTPS, Socks, FTP etc. Would this be a factor?

    So, any ideas?

I've cross-posted this to the Networking forum too, as it's quite demanding of networking and OS X knowledge, but if a mod doesn't like that feel free to delete one or t'other.

Many thanks for any help whatsoever.

your halls probably allow only port 80 traffic, so, good luck...

I think you're right about that. The DS uses the following ports to connect to Nintendo WFC: 28910, 29900, 29901 and 29920 as well as 80 (HTTP) and 443 (HTTPS)

Ugh, there's no magical way around this is there?

    Very helpful.

Your on a UCE campus right? Resnet?

Should be possible to get through, I’ve got most stuff working (VNC, SMTP Mail, MSN) though the socks 1080 port and HTTP tunnels.

edit: try programs like proxifier or the mac equivalent

That's right yeah, UCE. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll have a look for such a program. What halls are you in?

My friend Anna is over there. It's quite nice. I'm at Westbourne Road. It's a bit... Urgh. But the location is great.

Only been at the TIC in the evenings to see movies at the Imax :p I'm at BIAD all the time.

I'm guessing something like this might do the trick? http://sustworks.com/site/prod_ipnrx_overview.html

Ok, this thing seems like it'll do the job... But I have no experience with such things at all. I've only ever used the Terminal once before. Is there anything else that'll do this that is a bit more user-friendly and has a GUI? If not, can you give any advice on how to install it?
