    ;-)

    This is what i did:

First i moded a mouse cable... with a DB-9 connector like this:

Then i created a powercable using a 12V split cable and an old floopy connector moded like this:

    Then i installed LCDC

Loaded up and clicked Configure/Test to configure LCDC like this:
    Com Port- COM1
    Com Speed- 19200
    Definition file- NK204-25-BIT-TECH.lcdc-df
    LCD contrast- 150
    VFD brightness- 100%

Then i hit the Green button, then the Test display...
    Walla... I works !!

    ??????????????????

How the **pip** is that possible?
It needs ground (0V) and 12V as we are talking about the NV-204-Bit-Tech deal right...

On the pic above.. to the way right.. there is 1 black and 1 yellow wires.. Black is ground, yellow is 12V... cable only fit's one way to the connector...

    Re: ??????????????????

Well the one that springs to mind might be in this thread somewhere (??) - anyway he applied power accidentally to one of the middle pins in the power connector, these are l2c data lines (see the manual) and doing so fried the pic controller :(

It is possible but it's not very easy :) I've never broken an lcd yet :D

See my faq in the electronics board.

    r.

p.s. though your lcd is mostly likely dead, testing it for life is easy as I said...

In lcdc just go to screen build - events - add one - on start - process command - cursor blink off

    Easy as pie :)

Firstly the heat - the voltage regulator (labelled in my article) has to get rid of lots of excess energy to supply the board with a constant 5V from the 9V which it has been given... the more juice your give this display the hotter the voltage regulator will get. I hear you can use +25V if you put a huge heatsink on the regulator. If you're worried you could put a small heatsink on top of the reg but it should not be necessary at 9V.

Now to LCDC and $17.50 for it... well it is the best LCD software and it is the only lcd software that has proper support, it's own forum, a help manual that's longer than your average set menu and a pretty little icon - so paying for the priveledge shouldn't seem that unreasonable.

For me and for LCDC's many advanced users it's worth it's money but I'm not convinced that the average user - someone who sets up lcdc, selects an example script, tweaks it a little maybe and then does nothing else should have to pay $17 for the priveledge.

I didn't know until recently that like all beta software the current version of lcdc will not work forever, so a lot of people who I think asking $17 from is maybe a little OTT are going to have to decide whether or not to fork out soon...

But don't worry, LCDStats and LCD Smartie both have keypad and GPO control and are both free (Smartie is a little difficult to stop crashing sometimes but is quite flexible, stats is much less flexible but works well), you shouldn't have too many problems using either with your nk if you don't want to pay for lcdc - I apologies for not using any free software (bar mo's alpha demo) in my article on the nk, at the time I didn't know the lcdc beta had a limited life :(

Ok hope that's brought you up to date with my views on lcd software, I'm planning a big rewrite of the lcd FAQ soon with a close look at as many pieces of software as I can find :)

    Cheers,

    r.
