    Hello all,

This is my first post, and I am really hoping I can get some quick help to fix my issues at hand.

So, first off, I live in a "dorm" of sorts which only has wifi access, no ethernet/ hard line hookups are available, and no person who can access the routers(I cannot reset the router). I have a HP DV6T laptop with an Intel(r) WIFI link 5100 AGN wireless network adapter. I have lived in this building for about half a year and have had no issues connecting to the buildings wireless network up until 2 days ago. I turned on my laptop, and it can see the wifi network, but when i try to connect it says wireless connection was unsuccessful, and limited access.

I have attempted to troubleshoot this issue using many different forums and help sites for a few days, and nothing has worked. For all I know, my computer updated itself, and some setting has changed, but I cannot find the issue.

*I have updated my wireless adapter's driver
*I was not able to reset the router because I do not have access(though I am able to be on the internet on the same router via my work netbook without issue).
*I have pulled up command prompt as an admin and i've tried:
-ipconfig/flush dns: Result: Successfully flushed DNS Resolver Cache
-netsh winsock reset catalog. Result: Successfully reset the winsock catalog.
-netsh int ip reset reset.log & then rebooted the computer. Result: reseting global, OK!, reseting interface, OK!, then I restarted the computer and nothing changed.
-ipconfig. Result: Tunnel area local area connection* 18:
    Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media Disconnected
    Connection-specific DNS suffix . :
-ipconfig/release & ipconfig/renew. Result: both state "the operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation."
    -ipconfig/all. Result:
    Windows IP configuration

    host name. . . . . . . . . .: evo
    primary dns suffix . . . .:
    node type . . . . . . . . . .: Mixed
    ip routing enabled. . . .: No
WINs proxy enabled . .: No

Tunnel adapter local area connection* 18:

    Media state . . . . . . . . .:Media Disconnected
    Connection specific DNS suffix .:
    Description . . . . . . . . .: Teredo tunneling pseudo-interface
    Physical Address. . . . .: 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-E0
    DHCP Enabled. . . . . . .: No
    Autoconfiguration Enabled: Yes
(also, i have checked, and despite what it says, my DHCP says it is enabled)

So, for more information, I have disabled and enabled the network adapter with no change. I have tried to find my IP address both through command prompt ipconfig (see above for response), and through network and sharing center> Change adapter settings>wireless connection status>details> and nothing appears AT ALL in the network connection details box, which is where the ip address among many other things would be located. Also, for further referance, on the Wireless Network Connection Status page for my wireless adapter, IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity are both not connected, media state is Enabled, signal strength is good, but in activity there are zero packets sent or recieved. The wireless network I am on does not have any security or encryption. I don't remember how, but through command prompt I accessed system operations or something, specifically DHCP and it said it was enabled and automatic.

I am exhausted searching the web for a fix, and I may have missed some of the other "fix's" that I have attempted, all with no avail. I am worn out and I am hoping someone can help guide me through this all so I can get back on the web on my main computer.

    Thanks for all the help.

Can you connect to the Wifi on your phone, i assume no one else is having problems but you.

Maybe try booting via Ubuntu Linux third party via usb/cd see if pick up your wifi driver and can connect?

If they all fail or see if you can borrow a wifi dongle from a friend to try?

Sorry if these don't help or have been suggested sound like you have been having a real nightmare with this..

have you tried deleting the wireless network in the 'manage wireless networks' part of network and sharing centre? do that an then connect to the network again.

if that doesn't work, uninstall the network drivers for your wireless network card, notice I said uninstall, not disable. restart the machine, then re-install the drivers, if they don't automatically, then try connecting again.

if still no joy, can you physically get to the wireless access point/router to turn it off and on again. actually you should probably try this first.

still no joy, try another wireless adaptor/dongle

If all else fails and you definitely can't access the router, can you at least access the mains fuse box?

One of the easier things you can try is just a system restore since it was working a few days ago, if that doesn't work try it on another network - café, library anywhere with free WiFi.

As RichCreedy said, I'd try deleting the wireless profile. Also your ipconfig /all doesn't look correct to me are you able to post the entire thing or even just the IP address and gateway.

I had a similar problem last year, I could see my wifi network last year I could see the network, but it failed to connect every time. It turned out the cheap video sender I'd bought from Tesco operated in the same 2.4 GHz frequency range. I turned off the the video sender and Hey Presto I could again connect to my wifi network :). Has anyone installed any new wireless tech in your abode in the last few days??
