Hi, I have a pair of Asus HD 5770 1GB cards with the V2 egg-shaped cooler (EAH5770/2DIS/1GD5/V2/A) and one of the fans has started making an annoying noise for a few minutes each time I start-up the PC.

As far as I can see, each fan can be easily removed from its heat sink by removing 3 small screws whilst leaving the heatsink in situ. Is it was possibly to buy 2 new fans (without the heatsinks!) to replace my tired ones.

    Many thanks.

    You can do this.

Try taking the fan off and google the part number.
You will either find you can buy a exact replacement or get the spec and buy another fan that's up to the job.

Thanks. If I don't get anywhere with Asus support then I'll look into other options.

Looks like I'll be exploring other options. :)

That's a shame, I expected better from Asus - do they still monitor this forum?

It's not possible to buy the fans alone from us sorry. If it becomes a serious issue you'll have to RMA it.

I'm reluctant to RMA for such a minor fault so I'll look out for a replacement fan elsewhere. Thanks for the response.

If you're not going the RMA route I'm curious if a dab of fine machine oil would alleviate the noise somewhat. I did the same with a DELL D630 laptop fan and it helped smooth over the noise.

Wont that void the warranty? I would RMA it myself

Technically I suppose it will invalidate the warranty but I can always put the original fan back if needed at a later date. It's just a fan that very easily detaches from the heat-sink by 3 easily accessible screws. I'd far rather replace it myself than send the whole card away, risking all kinds of complications.

I'll give this a try, cheers.
