Right, I've read the Engadget review of the Nokia N9 and I want one. However, it's not officially available in the UK. Does anyone have any recommendations for importing phones? Obviously I've tried googling it, and it's reasonably easy to go on ebay or find small companies who stock it, but quite a few of them look pretty dodgy. If anyone has had any particularly good experiences with a small retailer that stocks it, that'd be great to hear! I'm looking for the 16GB version in black or red. Thanks for any help!
If it doesn't come with 7.5 I'd be very surprised, shaping up to be a great phone I think. Though I'm not sure if I actually want a Nokia, even if it does turn out to be brilliant.
I had one if there new ones in my hand today which will be announced on wednesday. Nice phone also windows 7.5. Sent from my GT-I9000
Pedants Yes alright, of course it'll be Mango, and I'm holding out on upgrading my contract (which I've been due a month now) in the hope that the device they announce on Wednesday is as super-awesome as the N9 reviews suggest it could be. How did you get your hands on one Kovoet?
It's one of Nokia's final (apparently brilliant, so sadly) MeeGo based phones, so I very much doubt it will get Windows Phone 7 officially at any point. I imagine the first Nokia Windows Phone 7 hardware won't be a million miles away from this though.
It's already been leaked, and is pretty much identical but for the addition of the WP7 softkeys and a camera button.
<A88> and I were talking about the Nokia 'Sea Ray', which might be called the N800 when it launches, which as above is virtually identical to the N9 hardware-wise, running WP7.5 instead of MeeGo.
I'm not really sure if I want to wait or not. MeeGo looks amazing, and I don't really use many apps on my current android phone so I wouldn't really be missing out - the N9 seems to have plenty going for it straight out of the box!
Windows Phone doesn't allow dualcores, it actually has pretty small list of CPUs allowed. All Windows Phone 7 phones are and will be single core for some time.
Apparently dual-core CPUs and NFC are coming next year. From the limited time I've spent on the devices though, they run butter smooth on comparatively slow CPUs so it's only very intensive 3rd party apps that suffer from the older hardware.
Well after playing around with the ( Name rumoured to be the N800 sun ) Nokia today I was quite impressed with. Loads of internal memory, awesome camera and I have to say very very responsive. When I was asked after messing with it for almost an hour my reply was about blady time to the Nokia rep
I don't have a 'smartphone' as such, a Nokia N95 8GB, at the moment where I don't use any of the features. I saw the video for the N9 a while back and after reading these things and the Engadget review on the Megoo version, I could well look into getting the 800 version if it ever gets released here in Ireland and is supported by my Network. Alternatively, I'll just get my cousins in Finland to source me one
Well, looking at preorder price of Nokia 800 in my local shop, either the local shop or Nokia went completely crazy. 746 euro. Yep. Seven hundred forty six. Compared to Omnia 7 for example, which sells for about 500 euro less, HTC Radar for about 400 euro less euros or HTC Titan for about 200 euro less. But according to a friend, it should be only 499 euros, so who knows .
The Lumia 800 as it's now called has a €420 list price before taxes and subsidies according to the Nokia World announcement. Official specs: 3.7-inch WVGA 800 x 480 AMOLED screen 1.4Ghz MSM8255 Snapdragon processor 512MB of RAM 16GB of internal storage 8-megapixel camera with LED flash and Carl Zeiss optics 1450mAh battery Apparently it's 12.1mm thick, which means it's a lot lardier than it looks in photos. Pocket Lint already have a hands on with plenty of shots.
€420 before taxes = €500 for most people. While some specs are good (larger internal storage than WP7 devices sold in europe), the 3.7" display is small.
The display size doesn't bother me as I've never been after a tablet for my pocket like the HTC Titan etc, but I'm a bit miffed about the lack of a front-facing camera; my O2 WinMo phone from 3 1/2 yrs ago had one for goodness sake! That said, it does appear to be remarkably cheap so I'll almost definitely be picking one up when they arrive in a couple of weeks.
Especially with the inevitable rollout of Skype early next year it could be a serious oversight. It does look pretty smart though, another one to add to my decision between Galaxy Nexus/HTC Rezound/Motorola RAZR/anything else appearing in the next month
Yeah, all that's changed is that I'm going to have to go for a 12month, maybe 18month contract at a push; I can live without video chat but it really would be nice to be able to Skype from somewhere other than my desk sometimes.
Oh and by the way, i find the non-removable battery interesting - i wonder how will you solve the total system freeze (it can happen to any platform), because you can't just remove the battery and put it back. Except the CPU frequency (which doesn't really matter) and bigger storage, i still find it as a worse choice than Omnia 7 (which on other side have one huge design error - USB connector is at the top of the phone), and next year we will probably have the next-gen dualcore WP7 phones anyway. Especially when Omnia 7 is half of the price of Lumia 800. @alastor: Galaxy Nexus from those three . HTC Rezound is not a Google Experience device, which means it will get updates later and will probably be abandoned after 1 year by manufacturer, then it will be picked up by Cyanogenmod. Motorola RAZR - if you like your money, then you don't buy anything from Motorola Europe. Motorola Europe equals super-delayed updates and locked bootloader : https://supportforums.motorola.com/community/manager/softwareupgrades Xoom in USA - 3.2. Xoom in Europe - 3.1 in selected countries. Other Motorola Devices in Europe: Android 2.2 or older. Milestone 2 (released a year ago) will maybe get their Gingerbread (yes, 2.3) update sometime next month. So Europe + Motorola = don't do it unless you like throwing away your money.
