I'm upgrading my computer from XP, but I need to add a new hard drive as well so I figure I'll get that out of the way first. I've looked on Wikihow and it seems thankfully (or suspiciously) simple. Also according to BIOS I have 3 free 'SATA' spaces (with one more already taken by existing hard drive), thought it seems I only have physical space in the bay for one more.

One immediate question: I'll need to connect the hard drive to my PSU (as I can see from my current hard drive) with the red, black and yellow cable(s). The only free plugs are on the same cable as one already plugged into my hard drive, is it ok to have 2 hard drive running on the same cable? I assume so but worth asking to avoid the trauma of seeing everything die.

Other than that, anything I should know, such as what I should be looking for in a hard drive or nasty surprises I can avoid when putting it in?

hi no problems other which drive to install too

have you backed up all your important data first?

as if you upgrade you may lose stuff

but its best to do a fresh install

you can use as many drives on the same cable if your psu is powerfull enough but modern hardrives take about 20w each

what make and wattage is your psu?
