I'm building an OBDII interface using the details from http://www.planetfall.com/~jeff/obdii/ previously when building these sorts of things, I've just bought a kit of the components. I can get all the parts I need from RS or Maplins, but I've drawn a blank on the 1uF 50V Radial capacitor. The parts list has digi-key codes, but I think £23 is a bit much to pay for a capacitor The capacitor mentioned is a FC series, can I replace it with a NHG series with the same value? Does the series make any difference?
Do you mean part #8, the small electrolytic? Electrolytics are far from accurate, and substitution is almost always fine. What you want is one with a capacitance closish to yours, and a maximum voltage at least that mentioned. Maplin's VH03D seems suitable -- and at £0.06, a litte cheaper than £23! RS do the 104-051. It is also rated at a higher maximum voltage than you need, but again this does not matter. RS' 116-997 is even smaller, being a 5mm type. RS tends to sell in minimum lots of 5 or so though, so you might be better with Maplin...
The Panasonic FC series are low-ESR 105C capacitors much loved by DIY Hi-Fi geeks, but look at Maplin DT52G for the nearest they have. Mind you, it's 4p. Farnell do the FC, along with a £20 minimum order.
