hai guise...i was just wondering if i could add another wireless router in my house to get internet on a desktop and my 360 in a different room from my current wireless router. i currently have a linksys wrt150n router and was wondering if i could use this router with it: http://www.staples.com/office/supplies/p1__246892_Business_Supplies_10051_SEARCH -thanks alot for any help.
ive got two link sys routers one is wired and the other is wireless the wireless one is wireless N. the link was a belkin wireless N router. i want another router for internet in a different room, and i want it for both my PC and xbox 360. unless ther is another way of doing this besides a USB adapter.
If you already have a wireless router why would you want a second one? Am I right about you going to share the internet connection? If your signal is too weak to reach the 360 I'd get a) a new router to REPLACE the old one or b) some of those I-can't-remember-the-actual-name wall socket network kits that use your elictricity sockets for LAN. Like these. Or do you want to use the second router as some kind of amp for the other router's signal which I don't think is possible.
im pretty sure the signal will reach because its just straight upstairs literally. i just wanted to be able to jump on the internet connection thats all.
You do know it says somewhere in the forum rules that at least part of your posts have to make sense to anyone except you, right?
This is such a confusing thread... So, you want to connect a desktop PC and an xbox 360 to the internet? You already have a wireless router providing internet access to something else in the house? The wireless signal from the existing router reaches the room with the aforementioned desktop and 360? If yes to above, you don't need another router. Just get a wireless NIC for the desktop (if it doesn't have wireless already) and a wireless adapter for the 360. Job done.
lol im sorry for not making much sense...english isnt my first language(if ull give me some simpathy) all i want is to get internet for my computer and xbox 360 in a different room, with wireless internet..what would be the cheapest way to do this.
Exactly what airchie described. 1 wireless router, 1 wireless PCI(-Express) card for your PC, 1 wireless adapter for the 360.
I think what you're looking for is a wireless bridge. If you don't want to use wireless adaptors for your PC and Xbox360, a wireless bridge will connect to your existing router via your existing wireless network and allow other devices to connect to that same network via its cable ports. Does that make sense? I've tried to use words that you'll understand despite the language barrier, but it's difficult, because this topic is necessarily complicated. Perhaps posting on a forum appropriate to your first language might be easier... AH
I agree with AH here. As far as I understand the idea of wireless routers and bridges it works like this: Wall socket >[cable]> wireless router >[wireless connection]> wireless bridge >[cable]> computer/360 Is that about right, AH?
yeah i just want the other wireless router in the different room to pick up the wireless internet so i can plug my pc and xbox into it and have internet on them. so i would just need to create a bridge in my network?
Wireless routers cant pick up wireless signals from another router or anything. If you have 1 router that can reach either just but a; usb / pci card for pc and the xbox adapter for xbox. or get an ethernet switch and wire it to the the router then you can just wire anything in ure room up from that.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833180052 so i could get something like that. i read an DIY article somwhere if i can find the link i will but they used their extra eternet port in the computer and hooked that up to the xbox then i think changed the DNS host or somthing to get internet on the xb360 also...do you guys know if this is possible?

From what I've seen here all you need is a wireless adapter for your PC and 360, which will run you ~100$. you don't need another wireless router. However, you could set up a router as a wireless bridge for the PC and 360 using custom firmware (I believe tomato will do it for you)
