FFFFFUUUUUUUUU!!!!!! Starbreeze studios! Syndicate is one of my all time favourite games and a classic of the golden era of bullfrog. I saved up for months to upgrade my 386 from 2mb of ram to 4mb so I could play it. I was excited at the prospect of a remake while desperately hoping they would not **** it up. Well they have ****ed it up already. The devs in their wisdom have decided to make it a FPS. WTF? Why turn a classic strategy/RTS game into a FPS? It makes no sense.
OMG SYNDICATE! I wasted many many hours on this game as a child. God it was so awesome. FPS would just make it dull like the 3 billion other FPS games out there.
To be fair, their previous offerings were excellent. The Darkness and Chronicles of Riddick were both HIGHLY enjoyable games for me.
We already have a new futuristic shooter which is Deus Ex. So, in my opinion, Syndicate should remain a strategy game. It doesn't necessarily have to be in an isometric viewpoint, but it definitely shouldn't be a standard FPS (or even tactical FPS for that matter). Having said that, we'll have to wait and see, Starbreeze are pretty good. Their dark tones (Riddick/Darkness) should suit the Syndicate universe...
what would be nice is if it was a first person, but not shooter. yes, have some fps times, but it certainly shouldn't be the entire focus. the focus should be on information gathering and planning, to then know what your combat objectives are. sneaking to do some espionage and finding out though clues would be amazing instead of the game just going 'kill this executive'. or other occasional combat times to defend yourself when you encounter resistance from too much tax collection. it would be enjoyable in a semi open world with a semi non linear story line sort of like fallout 3 or stalker. do something similar to those with less combat and more asset / resource management i think could do the original justice.
With modern gaming technology it should be Syndicate as it was, but with the ability to go down into an FPS view for each of your operatives. Not for an indefinite length of time, just for short periods for extra precise positioning, in tight emergency situations or to 'persuade' that one particular person from a crowd. The possibilities are there but in todays gaming market it needs an injection of either something new or a new way of doing something old; Frozen Synapse managed it and in a round about way it is similar to Syndicate, just basic graphically and smaller.
