http://www.whos-j00r-daddeh.net/bigz/images/deadasadohdoh.jpg I fired the card up earlier today to find that the vGPU mod wasn't working... loose connection, fair enough, resoldering job... I think. Anyway, after removing the old wiring, I soldered the first wire on, ok fine, good connection, etc... looked neat, no problem... Stupidly enough I then rushed a little on the second wire, and managed to get too much solder onto the wire, and then the bi product of this was that I managed to bridge together 2 of the legs of the IC with the excess solder, and it managed to find its way underneath the regulator, somehow... there wasn't even THAT much solder on there! Oh well, my first "disaster mod" for a long while, I don't mod much these days apart from volts, so it can get quite expensive... Luckily this was only a £100 card which has had a good bit of usage out of previous to this misfortune. The down side is that I've gotta find a new 9600XT which will overclock to the same heights... 762 core from 500 core, is well... a rather insane 52.4% overclock. Chances of this are very slim, but it was a fun card for a fun project, sadly it's been cut a little short by my impatience... really shouldn't have soldered after a bad day at work. Silly me, I'll learn
btw if you ask what is wrong with the card, you will see a little chip to the left of the VGA connector, that should be where the wire is attached It controls the voltage to the GPU the card should look like this http://www.uploadit.org/L337M33P/blah-046.jpg
Sell the fx53(I am somewhat serious, your other rig is great... and you know damn well you could build a whole computer for 800 dollars )! lol... man that sucks. Good luck finding a new card as good as that
The FX-53 was on loan, it's not my processor. I also have a 9800SE @ PRO as my day to day card, this is my hobby card that I've killed.
I'm gonna try and get hold of the part number and resolder it on... however I think it's fubar as a couple of the traces might be damaged.
Wish you the best of luck (and errr patience ) With it next time. and I must say WOW... I never new that a vid card could be OC'd that far I can only pull an average of about 10-20%. but thats with no volt modding and stuff like that
If you need a hand repairing the card once you get the IC bigZ I'd be glad to help. Im and electronic engineer by day and I can cope with a lot of the smaller SM rework. As long as I dont have to save the IC im taking off im fine I also have magnifiers etc here to see if there are any lost traces.
Thanks for the kind offer mate, I will definately consider this offer if and when I get hold of the IC
