Ill try setting the parallel port settings in the BIOS when I get home, maybe thats whats keeping my PC from "talkin" to the VFD. I would love to get the Liquid-MP3 plugin working. It would look sweet on the front mof m case.
yea, I did, is that a floppy cable? I thought you guys soldered the wires straight to the pcb. so you solder the other end of the floppy cable to a cut printer cable? thanks in advance!
I cut a floppy cable to fit into the parallel port on the vfd, and soldered the wires from the parallel port cable to the wires on the floppy cable (did that sound confusing?) anyway, when I try to do "scroll artist" or "scroll title" in the liquid-mp3 plugin, the text on the vfd gets all garbled. Ive tried all the different settings in BIOS, but the same thing happens Also, has anyone made different skins for their display? When I try to modify the liquid-mp3 one, like half the colors get reversed, so it doesnt look good.
Yeah, I have made skins, and changed layouts, And zotty said the Scroll features don't work on the 800's yet, Look up a bit... Gotta conform to where the display is set, or change the settings for where to display..
The scrolling is not enabled for the Noritake 800 Series and KS0108 modules in this version. As for skins, I made the one that comes with LiquidMP3. Make sure you save as a 144x64 2-bit bitmap.
Here is the VB source code to my BlinkenLights application: http://www.prokopski.org/vfd/BlinkenLights-NoritakeVFD-Source.zip I tried to clean up the source a little bit before posting. You can find the full application as well as some Liquid MP3 skins here: http://www.prokopski.org/vfd/ The skins are all based off of the one that is included with Liquid MP3 by ChriX
Win98 Liquid MP3 tip passed on Hi all, My first post all though most of you received my email. I'm the guy, Scott W., that sent the email to everyone that purchesed these on ebay. Thanks for all the responses. I've forwarded everyone that didn't already know about these threads, here and to HardForum. After several hours of trying to prove to myself that my displays actually function, I found the tip that got me up and running. Here is the quote from the Yahoo group: "Noritake VFD" =================================== From: "scs_robert <hottdoggzz@h...>" <hottdoggzz@h...> Date: Wed Feb 19, 2003 7:05 pm Subject: Win 98 tip .. rename Liquid MP3 dll I was not able to get Liquid MP3 to work with Win 98 (Winamp 2.x) until I renamed the .ddl file to vis_liquid. Winamp could find the plugin with the name supplied by the installation. I didn't have to do this on my XP installation. =================================== This simple rename from vis_liquid-mp3.dll to vis_liquid.dll and a restart of the plug-in under winamp and bingo all's well in the world. 3 hours of ohming connectors for nothing but alls well that ends well. I'd recomend this to anyone that is having trouble with liquid mp3 under Win98.
OK , I must look like an idiot but for some reason the Liquidmp3 plugin will not showup under my Winamp>Preferences>Plugins>Visualization Winamp 2.60 LiquidMP3 .93 DLPortIO I checked the Winamp>plugin directory and the dll is there (renamed to vis_liquid.dll). I have restart Winamp about 4 times already. The Q&A's on the LiquidMP3 site states the following: -- Q: I copied the plug-in to Winamp's plug-in dir, but LiQuiD-MP3 is not shown in the plug-in list. A: Did you install DLPortIO? When DLPortIO is not installed and running, Winamp is unable to start the plug-in. -- I have installed DLPortIO already and restarted the system but Liquid still fails to display in the Visualization>Plugins directory. Is there something else I am suppose to do that I may have overlooked?
Hmmmz, it seems I'll have to work on the LiQuiD-MP3 FAQ. Expect an update before the end of next week! Does the "-" character cause the problem under Win98? If so, I'll take that in account in future plugin naming.
Well I recieved my displays on Tuesday and successfully built the cabling and now they are up and running with the LiquidMp3 plugin. I have to hand it to all of you for your teamwork and dedication to get these displays working, without you guys I would have been dead in the water! Is there a test screen utility(virtual screen) I can use to test the plugin configuration so I don't have to have the VFD connected at all times? *I am not at home so I cannot test the dll name change. I will update on the name change in a few hours though.
I'm working on the FAQ right now, and was wondering if there are things you guys (or girls ) find usefull in a display/plugin FAQ. Since I'm working with displays daily, I'm affraid some things will be forgotten that might be usefull to the occasional display-user. So if you have good ideas and/or tips, let me know!
I have the displays working on a desktop with no problem but testing on my Armada(compaq laptop) the display is garbled and off center. I checked the bios settings for thelpt1 and the only options are: Standard Bidirectional EPP ECP There is no setting for ECP+EPP The best setting I tested was Bidirectional but still the display is garbled. Is there any specific port setting I must change in the OS? Or in DLPortIO? I am testing on this laptop to see if the dll name change has a problem. Thanx
LOL, you're throwing everything you've got at it aren't you? Now I'm starting to get worried you're going to find all weak points in the plugin hehe Laptops are an unsolved case. I have never seen or heard that it worked on a laptop, but I did hear and saw it didn't work.... It's a timing problem, and every laptop (from expensive ones to the cheapest junk imaginable) seems to suffer from this, no matter what port setting is used. More info on this is much appreciated!
Hey Chrix, Went to Ice hardware, and checked out your article on how to hook up the LCD... Just a note that the number of reads updated +1 every time I changed pages on it... So I read the article one time, but it added 5 reads... I think you might want to check that... Good article tho.
