Morphine, you're a LCD/VFD junk . I've been there too, managed to surpress it for a while, but it doesn't seem to go away Let's see what that guy has to offer.
Would you have the funds for two pieces of these ? As I don't see why the seller couldn't send you two instead of one as long as he gets the money and has displays left. Of course I can come to help funding my part but it will take some days for the money to get from me to you. This way you would have a display and me too. Let's put it this way: You'd be satisfied with the speed
Got a reply: 'Hello R.C. Thank you for your interest in the displays. These are going to be a really great buy. The company that I work for changed the design of the electronics unit and these became obsolete to us. We had to purge them from the inventory and that is how these became available. I am no expert with Ebay yet but learning as I go. When I listed the display, I did it as a single unit. I do plan on re-listing the display and will place it again as a dutch auction so that multiple purchases will be available. I have at least 50 pieces and all would be tested prior to shipping. If you win the first bid, would one be enough for testing? If not, I will re-list right away for you to get a second unit. If you agree to obtain two units this way, I won't re-list for a few weeks for you to do your testing as long as we keep open e-mail communications as to how your testing is going. I will hold off shipping the first unit until the second auction is over in order to ship both units together to save you additional shipping cost Thanks again for your patience and interest' Morphine, did you get any reply from him? I'll try to get 2 displays from him without any ebay intervention. He's got enough of these displays.
Yeah I was forwarded the messages and even another email from him. I gave him my adress so that he can get a good figure on shipping charges.
Junkie... naw.... started my display collection with a Matrix Orbital graphic display I won here at Bit-Tech. Then got about 20 4x20 character LCDs off an ebay auction. After that another 10 4x20 VFDs. I have 8 large graphic LCDs and four dead noritake 800 series displays (they were all working then one by one died and the wiring was good, weird...)
Morphine, that mail was my correspondence with him. It appears he is willing to sell without ebay intervention, however i have my doubts about this guy. I made a deal with him for 2 VFD's for the ebay bidding price (my bid), one i will keep, the other i will send to Henri. We'll see how it turns out,
Well, I think I'll wait until all the software issues have been worked out - I'm sure it'll be speedy. In the meantime, I'm thinking of getting a nice big graphics LCD. I've been looking at a bunch of ones on EIO, but they don't seem to have controllers. I really want a 320x240 one. Overkill! Perhaps I'll just snag one from Morphine here.. 160x128, right? Regardless, I'll be keeping an eye on this thread, as one of these would be just sweet. Of course, you guys DO realize they won't fit in a case front panel, right.
a 320x240 running PowerLCD . But i still prefer VFD The author of PowerLCD is dutch, if this VFD thing works out, i might contact him, little chance i'm afraid though. Henri will give it a shot anyway.
Actually, I wasn't going to use PowerLCD - it's too limited for what I want. Plus, it costs money. I've found a sweet little program called LCDHype - it supports graphic and text LCDs, and has a built-in scripting language. It's pretty slick, for a 0.35 version.
It ended at $137,50. Well i don't think he's still willing to sell me 2 anymore. However the base price was $50, and i quote him 'I have extra displays. Discounts can be arranged for quantities of 5 or more.' So if Morphine can arrange a group order, he'll have to stick around that $50.
It looks as though hes using that auction to establish the going price for those displays. At least thats whats implied in the email. I don't know how many are willing to dish that out. We will need some VERY good software support for these to draw people to buying them.
I'd be interested in getting one, depending on how much he wants. I know that DigiKey sells them for about $300 ea. As to the software support... Well I'm fairly certain that Henri will get that figured out. He's one smart cookie Is that $137 his asking price now, or do you even know yet?
If I get a display then it should't be too hard to make it work but unfortunately it's not looking that good at the moment. I was prepared to put out about $50 + maybe some but at $137, no way, I simply can't afford that. But if it turns out I can get one unit for a price I can afford then you can expect me to write software to run it. I don't know how much others are prepared to pay for these so if the seller can find the demand even at higher price then I can't see him selling displays for less.
Morphine, i got exactly the same email from him. Have you replied him as to what base price he will maintain for a group order? $100+ is too much for me anyway Hope he realises that a group order for around $50 pp will give him less profit but faster turnover than offering them one by one on eBay. Anyway don't think a group order will reach 50 pcs, so he's still got some left to offer on eBay.
I just said that I would run this news by the people that were interested in the displays and I even mentioned that all of them were expecting a ~$50 price.
Have you read my mail, sent to you yesteray to the vfdgroupbuy mailaddress. Let me know what you think.
