Cool thanks how do i find the hotkeys in lcdc? Also the blue filter is really good but how can you stick in to the vfd so it stays on it?

One more thing does anyone have a template for the screen so i can put it in one of my cases bezels?

There is no template currently available... but if you look at the data sheet the measurements are on there.

I used duble sided carpet tape to attach filter to the display and display to the bezel.

Very occasionally when I've just come from the event builder it crashes on starting... that's the only time mine does (and it does it at the same place you describe). LCDC wasn't designed to have such complicated def/screen files, you can try cutting things like the transitions and the flashy startup out if the crashing is a big problem :)

    Winamp Screen

On Cheese's Winamp Screen, am I going mad, or in the bottom right hand corner of the display did it used to say "PLAY" or "STOP", etc?

I noticed last night on my display that when Im playing a track it says "> " and has a big gap after the ">" character and if I pause the track the ">" changes to a "|".

Im sure it used to have text in the bottom right of the display or was it all a dream?

    Im using the NiceExample2 files...

    Re: Winamp Screen

See te readme file in the zip - you have to configure the winamp plugin to say 'play' etc. (LCDC - config - plugins - WA2 - config button).

Hi, long time reader, first time poster :)

i've ordered one and i've got to say that Itron may not have the infrastructure there to take and process orders yet, but they have their customer support spot on from what i can see. anyone with a problem, they have fixed it, and from the dealings i've had with them via email they seem to actually want you as a customer not just wanting your money.

i look forward to receiving a little something in the post in the not too distant future

    Re: Re: Winamp Screen

Ahh, that'll be it. I had a HDD crash since I first installed and had to reinstall my whole system from scratch :miffed:

I thought I had everything covered from memory. Teach me to RTFM :D

    Thanks cheese.

Hi, I finally got mine today :D
Took less than a minute to hook it up thanks to the nice cable included in the kit :D

B4 i got it, i had lcdc installed with the definition files provided by cheese, it all worked very well on the virtual display (except for custom graphics and big fonts, but that's normal).
But now that it is connected, the display hangs @ the big temps screen while it used to go past that without problem when the display wasnt connected, com speed is set to 19200 so cant be that ...
    Any idea ?

You mean the software hangs or the display hangs? Does the virtual display stop too? If so it's LCDC's fault... if not try reseting your display (see the first post in this thread).

The VFD doesn't talk to LCDC in it's standard config at all... there's no way the VFD could hang LCDC, so try and reinstall the software from scratch (it may be your version of MBM causing problems, try upgrading?).

Also try the simple examples in the review, do these work ok?

then it gotta be lcdc hanging. Once the thing hangs, clicking on "Start/Stop display" makes lcdc not respond and i have to kill it.
    I use MBM 5.1.9.1
reinstalled my com port, well just deleted it and restarted, WinXP reinstalled it without any notice.
The BT logo, www.bit-tech.net and big temps (with thermometer icon all work fine so does the transitions until that big temp screen where the thing stops.
How would doing the simple example help me finding the problem ?

BTW tx for the fast reply

reinstalled LCDC and it still does it
BTW virtual display wont display anything until the thing hangs, then when i click on start/stop display to stop it the virtual display only then shows the big temp screen
Also, i noticed LCDC doesnt really hang, but takes a hell of a long time to "stop" the display which it doesnt anyway (big temp screen still displayed)
Not sure i reinstalled com port correctly, have I ?

LCDC has a problem somewhere and we need to find out where... the simple examples are far less tasking for LCDC - your problems may just be LCDC not coping with the sheer size of my def/screen files, though it's odd they worked before.

Also try the display on a different com port...

    :)

    Thanks

    Hi SlartiB,

 Thanks for the kind words!
We're not the biggest company, but we are part of Noritake of Japan, the inventors of VFD technology.
Most of our business is with OEM manufacturers who order many pieces at a time and take delivery over several months. This is a learning time for us, having to process many one-piece orders, so we may not be as slick as you'd like. However, I hope that soon we'll offer a proper credit card facility and even on line ordering. Nice ;)

Yes we want you as customers, but more than that, we want you to enjoy working with an established and often overlooked display technology. You see VFD everywhere, but don’t often recognise it for what it is or what it can do for you.

I hope you get your "little something" soon as we should be back on track with deliveries now that we're making these modules by the hundred again! :)

    Best regards,

    Phil

checked windows' comp ports setting and they where set @ 9600 upped it to 19200 (although i think i read window' com port setting wasnt influencing lcdc's setting)
Connected VFD to com2 and set LCDC accordingly, now the thing still hangs @ the same place BUT the virtual display now shows big temp screen too without me stopping display like b4

I'll try the simple example which should work fine anyway since the display seems to work well up to the hanging point.

Cheese do u use messenger? would save me from installing ICQ if u dont mine talking about the problem through IM
