How long has it been since you emailed them?

They can be quite slow, so I'd just hold on a while.

    Hi sojumk,

I hope that you've received my email by now.
I see that you mention the cost of $78 that I think is either a misunderstanding ie the cost is UKP 78.00 direct from the UK, or it refers to an earlier posting by The Colonies.

If you are referring to his posting, I just like to say that The Colonies seems to have brokered an exceptional deal!
I think that he's managed to take advantage of our Californian and Chicago office who have sold the VFD kit at the "module only price", and they've also not charged for the UK to US shipping too! By "module only" I mean that we normally sell the GU126X32F-K612A4 without the 6 way power/data connector. So The Colonies got the 6 way connector fitted, the cable with its 2 connectors and the coloured filter, all for free!! By my reckoning that's worth at least US$30, so not a bad deal at all, but one that I'm sure Noritake Co. Inc. won't want to do too often! :(

I can not retract anything that has worked to The Colonies advantage, but I can say that this is definitely a one off situation.

I respectfully ask that if you (or anyone else) does contact Noritake Co. Inc. and you find that the price you're charged is different from that paid by The Colonies, please don't complain. There has been a mistake made and it's unlikely to be repeated.

Having got that straight, I'd like to say that there will be differences in prices between the various countries that sell or offer to sell this kit.
You are right to take advantage of the best offers available to you.
But please don't be disappointed if you contact a local sales office and find that:
    1) The price is not the same as that paid by The Colonies
    OR
    2) That they refer you back to Itron (UK) Ltd because that they either, don't have stock, don't recognise the part, or just don't have the capability of handling small orders.
(The Noritake direct sales offices are handling orders from large corporate OEMs and distributors and don't always have credit or debit card ordering facilities.)

Thank you for letting me put the record straight, and I look forward to helping you with using Itron VFDs in your projects.

Good things come to those that wait!

    Sojumk,
If you like the display so much, and need one badly enough you’ll find a way of scraping together the extra few dollars! ;)
I can assure you that when you’ve got a 126x32 in your hand you’ll never regret it, and all the heartache will be worth it in the end.
    :D

    Taken Advantage of?

Well, geez Funks, you make it seem as if I pulled something shady here... :waah:

I sent you an email, and you gave me a price and a contact number if I was interested in ordering from the States since they had several kits in Chicago that had been sent to them.

I called the guy you gave me and asked for pricing in Dollars. He said he would have to check and get back with me.

The following day he called back with the pricing I listed. I was happy with the price, told him I would take one and had him send me the form for ordering via Credit Card.

I certainly dont feel like that is taking advantage of someone. I asked for a price, they gave one, I said yes...end of story.

I felt that the price was more than fair and I paid shipping from Chicago to Los Angeles. I don't feel that it is right to pay shipping from the UK if the product is coming from Chicago.

Perhaps you could get together with your US counterparts to firm up some pricing for the US since there is a contingent of us who read this board...and, as you have seen, would like to buy your product. BT may be UK based, but modding is worldwide.

I will be glad to remove my earlier post if the info is incorrect. I do not want to mislead anyone on pricing. I was simply documenting my experience.

Thanks again all for the help, I am struggling slowly through the programming aspect and am currently puzzling how to make a full screen image like the dragon, instead of just a 32x32 image.

    Re: Taken Advantage of?

Yes that's true why the heck do i need to play shipping from UK and in UK currency if chicago is making the same thing? i think this is totally unfair for ppl in the states.

i totally agree with Colonies. i mean this is insane for playing UKD if it's coming from chicago :nono: :eyebrow:

    Re: Re: Taken Advantage of?

Well the answer to that question is that Chicago don't make them, Noritake-Itron in the UK do, hence needing to pay some shipping fee, as Noritake have to. You shouldn't have to pay UK VAT though (I'm pretty sure anyway).

Re: Re: Re: Taken Advantage of?

oh definitly i'll pay shipping but if $77 in UKD is more than $100 in USD.

that's too much for shipping. Though i know Chicago has those stuff in stock.:nono:

well i guess i won't be getting one for me... damn:wallbash:

Re: Taken Advantage of? - Not at all !

    Hi Brian,
I didn’t mean to intimate that you were doing anything shady or a bit doggy. You correctly reported your experiences.

The US sales offices have had recently introduced a few new parts and kits from Itron UK, and it’s possible for confusion to arise. Many of our parts have only one letter or digit different, and it’s easy to make a mistake. (I know ‘cause I've done it! For example GU126X64F-K612A4 and GU126X64D-K612A4 similar resolution, same interface, just different pixel size, 25% difference in cost though!!) And that’s what has happened here. So rather than stop a shipment, or back bill you for the difference, we let it go, and took the loss! :eeek:

This is no reflection on you, and if I was in the same situation I'd have done exactly the same thing, ie Take the sales guys word for it and pay what he asks. :)

We do talk with our US sales offices and as I said in previous posts, it's a mistake that is very unlikely to be repeated.

With regard to costs, look at it this way: we make a product in the UK, it gets shipped nearly half way round the world, and this shipping is a cost that the end sales office has to pay. How they choose to recover the cost is up to them, but they have a business to run profitably. The usual way is to add a small amount to each unit’s price to cover the shipping and other costs, and I can see that this didn’t happen.

I don't think its necessary to remove your original post, now that we all know a mistake was made, and that’s it! I'm sorry for Sojumk and others but what’s done is done.

I hope that everyone here appreciates being able to read our discussion and see that we’re just trying our best to bring some nice displays and ideas to you all.

From what I’ve seen here everyone has had some fun with the VFDs, discovered a lot about how they work, learnt to use a driver program that was not really intended for these display, but one that works extremely well, and you’ve got some neat cases and ideas to boot!!

I say more power to your elbows and enjoy using Itron VFD displays. :D

That's the whole point of checking websites like virtual-hideout or inpact-hardware ..... so you see most of whats happening in terms of reviews on other sites and also find the bargains right @ the beginning and not miss special offers

Maplin do coloured film (used for lamps) that works fine as a filter for VFD's - can't remember what they'd be listed under, but they do sell it (shame it only comes in MASSIVE rolls...)
