Im using the zalman, and i can definately give it my thumbs up, it was only £6 from thecoolingshop. And its silent , YAY.
I do agree witht the mounting system thing for it, took me about 10 mins to get it done, however i am using a VIA chipset, where the holes are furhter apart i think? so it should have been easier.

I didnt learn much from that, but its nice to know the zalman actually worked I spose.
My board (AOpen AK77-400MAX, KT400A) has a passive sink on the nb already, and I get very high 'system' (just the name I gave the second number in MBM) temps until I blow air over the area, whereupon they drop by about 10 degrees (only a very slow ~5V fan). I assumed this alternate reading from my motherboard was a northbridge temperature, am I wrong?

The 'system' temp is read from a thermistor on the motherboard somewhere, and unless its very close to the NB, isnt to do at all with the NB's temperature.

Ive got a KD7-R with Kt400 chipset and my zalman doesnt hardly get warm.

I have the same Zalman heatsink, except it's the copper version. I haven't installed it yet, but that will come soon.

Correct me if im wrong but you don't have to have mounting holes for the zalman when i bought mine i was supplied with Artic compound to fix it to the chipset if you havn't got holes. This methode is a little bit to perminant but still it gives you the option.

I only got normal thermal paste with mine, but it has been hanging around for a while, maybe they supply it with some thermal epoxy these days? Thanks for the tip off MDK...
