Under load his system is surely approaching the limits of that 500 watt psu.

500 watts Gpu under load is easily 100 of that, CPU is anywhere between 150-200 does not leave alot for the rest of the system.

I'd personally consider removing 1 DVD drive and 1 hd and see if that makes the difference.

As for wether that mobo can support that chip that's open to question and debate. Most review sites state the 4+1 is not enough to power it even under stock but others have ran the chip in boards like that. Motherboard manufactures stick support stickers on everything most of them just after your cash.

Ok, still not resolved this issue! Motherboard was sent back to scan for RMA but they have checked it all out and there is no problem. The day after I posted it I had a few crashes (not as many as before) with my stand in board and CPU.

    So...

Its not the PSU - Original swapped out for 650w alternative.
Its not the mobo - Scan have tested that and it is fine.
Unlikely to be CPU - System still crashing with old Q6600 installed (although old mobo/cpu setup was refusing to boot at all).
Its not the RAM - Have switched out RAM.

Only thing thats left are the drives and the graphics card (I also replaced power cable and tried different power socket). Which should I try first?

Open up HWMON and watch your temps. Sorry for the belated reply.. Also look at your voltages, in particular the 12v line and 5v line.

Check in the bios to see if you can change the throttle temps. You can on my Asrock and Asus CHVFZ.

Cheers for the reply but have dismantled the whole lot now and cleaned up the CPU ready for sale. The replacement mobo suits my colour scheme much better anyway!

I don't trust Scan RMA at all - I sent them a broken mouse , was returned as being `fine` - but stunningly it still didn't work properly.... the manufacturer then accepted the rma , and they said `oh yes its actually faulty`. and replaced it....

Cost me £40 to get it to them, checked and sent back which was nearly as much as it cost in the first place so it better be ok!!
