Are there any program out there that will save the sound that will come out of the line out and save it to like a wave or an mp3? Baically, I could do it with a cord running from speaker out to mic in and record off of that, but there has to be a better solution than that. Any ideas on some free or cheap programs?

what soundcard? if it's creative, and a 1373 chip or better(read: sb pci64 or newer), the creative mixer has a "what you hear" option on the record tab.

as for onboard/ac97/other chipset audio, cant help you there.
    sorry.

thanks. for example, if im not getting across.

if I wanted to do it with video, i could use fraps. instead of running it out into the input of a vcr or something, than rolling it back on, fraps just captures the stuff that is on the way out and saves it. any more ideas?

tk421's solution is actually exactly what you need ElCid. More specifically though you need a full duplex soundcard. Then you just need to set your record source to "wave out" or similar and start whatever sound recorder you prefer (just like recording from microphone or line in).

I'm not sure exactly what cards offer this feature though. I've got a VideoLogic Sonicfury (which is basically a Videologic branded Turtle Beach Santa Cruz). I actually upgraded a couple of days ago though and decided on the onboard option of my NF7-S instead though (there was never brilliant software support from videologic or turtle beach, especially when it came to linux drivers). It's a really nice card though, so you might want to look around for a cheap second hand one if nothing else you have will do.
