Im not really sure if this is the right place to ask but Im sure someone will correct me if Im wrong. Ive just finished my first home built computer of which I am quite proud but I want it to be quieter still. The main noise is coming from the HSF as the graphics card is passively cooled and the PSU is a Tagen. Now here is my dilema - do I go for watercooling to try and eliminate the noise from the HSF or just go with a high quality HSF (any recommendations). For watercooling im thinking of either a reservator or the Thermaltake. It has to be external as Im a bit clumsy and the case is already very full, or so it seems to me. The way I see it I have three options 1. The Reserator (seems expensive but everyone says its good quality) 2. The Thermaltake (cheaper but not sure on quality) 3. HSF (cheapest option but not sure if it will be quiet enough) Any advice any one could give would be appreciated Chris
Youd also be supprised how much noise your harddisks make unless youve quietened them somehow. The reserator is meant to be really quiet. As for general watercooling, imo, no moreso than a good heatsink and quiet fan but youll get more efficient cooling from the former.
Go for the HSF the other 2 are just a waste of money. Zalman is silent but has poor performance and is way overpriced. The tt kit is just crap If you went for a good zalman hsf you wold get the quite cooling and fairly good performance. (and you would also have mony left to buy some other stuff to help silence drives)
Heatsink is your best bet SLK900a is the latest goody i think. with a nice 92mm fan can't go wronge. /me wants a reserator though they are so cool morgan.
Should have said it was for a P4 first really I think I am going to go with Zalman HSF and see what difference that makes. Im also thinking about putting a 120mm Panaflo in the side of the case above the MB to keep cold air coming in. Thanks for the help guys.
