Windows 'nother XP problem

    okey dokey, my problem is as follows, when i start up my PC internet does not work, but when i connect with my laptop, it does work. I have checked network settings and all that, and everything seems to be in order. So if someone would be nice and tell me...WHAT THE 'ECK HAPPEND TO MY FRIGGIN INTERNET!. I also have set the router to factory settings, so it should be like i just got it. I have a wireless linksys router. I also have windowsXPprofessional

    Run a virus check, many ISP's have it so that is you are infected you cant get a connection. Im with Telus and thats how they operate anyway.

    My (non-wireless) Linksys router has done things like this in the past - i.e. refused to connect one machine. Best bet is to uninstall the software and re-install it from the CD - let it do the whole detection thing again. Failing that, there are a number of things to try...

    have you checked the connection to the router? Are you using wireless or a normal network cable to connect your desktop to the router. Try changing the cable if it's a wired connection.

    Can you 'see' the other machines on the network (laptop etc.)?

    Can you ping other machines / the router?

    Have you recently made any software / hardware changes?

    Have you got another network card to try?

    Are you using DHCP or static IP addresses? If static, is there a conflict? If DHCP, have you remembered to enable this on your router? Have you told the PC to obtain an address automatically?
