Yeah and how could I forget... Streets of Rage II That's a game that took all night 2 Player marathons to beat. So much fun and I even have it emulated on my PSP now ^^
Damn that was a great game. I loved the special attack when you would call in your buddy and he shows up in a cop car with nukes... Good times.
Indeed, Streets of Rage (SoR) was excellent although SoRII imo beats 1 and 3. Axel is my fav character with Skates a close second.
It's a tie between N64 and Mega Drive. On one hand N64 was my first introduction to Nintendo games, and how great it was. Mario 64 and Majora's Mask (yes I missed out on OoT) pretty much made me a fan of those two. But I still can't forget Sonic. All the Sonic games were fantastic, with the exception of 3D Blast, which is not half bad. It's just a shame Sonic didn't make a graceful transition into 3D. Oh and the all too pretty Beyond Oasis which plays just as well.
mega drive, hands down. the amount of time i spent on it (and the mega cd) as a kid was mindblowing, plus it was the first console i could truly call my own. christmas 1990 -- i was seven at the time, haha. if i had to name something else, it'd be the super nintendo or the commodore 64. but the mega drive is still #1 for me. i can't believe the amount of people who've mentioned the n64. i have good memories of snowboard kids, f-zero x and goldeneye, but... not much else.
Actually, I'm going to split it between Xbox and GC simply because they were the first I bought with my own money and had some great fun with. I rebought every RE game on the GC and it was the best month of my gaming history. I pissed away 50 hours with four mates playing Crystal Chronicles multiplayer and had tons of fun on my GC. My Xbox had XBMC on it and made my first ever media centre - it was and still is, fantastic. All my other consoles I played on and went "meh, tis alright I spose," but they were nothing to PC gaming which I did for years and years and years
Not one mention of the PC Engine! Wonderful NEC console with a catalogue of as close to arcade perfect conversions as you could get in those days. Thats my vote anyway. Cant beat a bit of r-type http://www.pcengine.co.uk/HTML_Games/R-Type_I.htm
i almost mentioned it as one of my second choices, but my experience of actually owning one has been limited to the last two years (pce duo) so i didn't feel i was qualified to say how brilliant it is to have one, haha. plus i have more sentimental value attached to the mega drive anyway, heh.
I never cared much for the N64 tbh, always hated Nintendo's post-SNES controllers. I'd say that in sheer hours played, the Genesis probably wins for me, with PS1 (thanks to ff7) as a close second. While FF7 is my favorite game of all time (followed by FFX, then probably the Genesis-era Sonics), it was pretty much the only game I ever played on the thing, where I'd amassed a decent library of Genesis games which were all pretty decent.
Lucky, i only played 1, never 2 or 3... Didn't even know they were out. I usually picked the chick, she had a wicked toss and flying kick.
The 3DO. The first console I ever owned, bought with my own money. I have put more game hours on my 3DO than I have on my Xbox (original) or PC. Shockwave: Invasion Earth Shockwave: Operation Jumpgate Never did get the third one Shockwave: Beyond the Gate Space Hulk Crash and Burn Twisted the game show Scramble Cobra Just some of the games I own.
Yeah I agree. I think after the SNES, Nintendo really fell behind on the technology side, the carts and tiny disks on the 64 and GC really put off a lot of 3rd party developers. I didn't really like the controllers either, the 64 introduced the analogue stick, which was great, but the actual controller was awful, what was the point in splitting it up so you could only use half of it at once? Terrible design. GC's wasn't a whole lot better either, it was too cramped for my hands and the button layout was a bit strange. Not to say I didn't like the consoles, I did own a 64, the only games I actually liked on it though were OOT and Rogue Squadron, the game selection wasn't that great IMO. I've got a GC under my desk too which I picked up cheap a few years ago, although there's the same problem that there just wasn't a huge selection of games that interested me.
I think N64 as well, purely for Goldeneye and Mario Kart 64. But my A1200 was pretty cool, I spent ages playing Syndicate, Cannon Fodder and Beneath A Steel Sky. That and drawing ABC Warriors in Corel Deluxe, the one with Tutankhamen's mask on it.
Ja I had something like 7 controllers and 4 copies of Goldeneye! Truly a game console whose popularity and pedigree may never be matched again.
Toughie this. My mate had an N64 and we played a lot of Goldeneye on it. Another mate had a Commadore 64 and SWOS was the order of the day I loved my Mega Drive and my Playstation (1). I LOVED my NES and played that a lot but decision goes probably to my Playstation for classic GT/Wipeout and all the other classics
Though it's the least played of my consoles, the Sega Master System II, purely and simply because it had Alex Kidd built-in and free. You said favourite *console*, not favourite generation or game series (which is the question most people are answering ). Master System II owns all, because free built-in games are the best idea EVER.
I really don't think the magic of the N64 can ever be relived... This is probably why I'm into gaming - to have as much fun as I used to...
