    Sigh :sigh:

"Because, kid, he's not a vain, fake, cocky, arrogant, manufactured wart like you"

If you're wondering what I was doing on the Daily Mail website at 2 in the morning... I honeslty have no idea  It may have had something to do with the olympics.

I'm also demotivated by the unhelpfulness of some other forums I'm a member of. I won't name names, but seriously, when a thread you start has dozens of views and is completely ignored by every member of the forum with 0 replies after several days, you know you're asking in the wrong place. Actually, I'm asking in exactly the right place, but the members are such a bunch of stuck up, unhelpful pricks that they won't give me any help or advice.

Every single member of bit-tech needs to be thankful that we have such a friendly, helpful member base here. Seriously, you have no idea how well off this community is in that regard. This experience has been an eye opener.

I'm sure there's some unwritten bit-tech law about that somewhere. I think you now have to be burned at the stake or stoned or something :D

I asked two questions on an RC heli forum related to the 400 that I'm building at the moment. One related to the heli's electronics - advice on picking a motor and ESC to put in it, and one about the main rotor shaft - why I've gotten two from the manufacturer so far and neither are within tolerance or can be used to build a flight worthy bird. I'd have appreciated just an acknowledgement that the issue was raised or that a question was asked. Absolutely nothing.

If it's anything like high-end audio (a niche within a niche) then you may find that you have broken the unwritten law of criticizing the great manufacturer and are being snubbed because you dared to call to attention something that everyone kin'a knows, but no one's willing to make anything of, like ££££ cables...

Balls for me. There's no way I could walk through that. The only way would be a full hazmat suit with absolutely no way any of those buggers could get in. I'd rather be sick than have all those crawl over me.

    Brrr!

If they were venomous then I'd take the balls and lick rather reluctantly whilst holding my nose. If not then I'd just windmill my way through them like a boss.

I've done that with high end audio and electronics before and had a similar reaction (actually most of the times that I call out something like that, I actually get a reaction) but this is kinda different because it's just a hobby enthusiast forum, none of them have any affiliation with the manufacturer whatsoever. I think it's just the fact that I joined their forum 4 years ago and have only posted a handful of times in that period, which makes my queries and I unimportant to them.

Just to paint a more detailed picture for you; a helicopter main shaft usually has 3 holes in it - one is for a bolt or pin called the "Jesus Pin" at the top, which holds the main rotor head to the shaft. Somewhere below the middle, there's a tail rotor drive pulley which is held in place by another steel pin. Finally, at the bottom of the shaft, there's a hole for the bolt that holds the main drive gear bearing in place. There's also a flat ground onto the shaft around the middle for a holder and grub screw that sits on the top shaft bearing and keeps the shaft supported in the airframe.

Obviously, the spacing of these 3 holes and that flat spot on the shaft is very important because they control the positions of the head rotor, tail drive pulley and main drive gear in relation to the airframe.

On one of the shafts that I have, the spacing of the pulley pin hole and main gear bearing hole is 2mm too small, which causes the shaft to "slop" if it's positioned in the frame so that the tail pulley doesn't hit. If it's positioned so that it doesn't slop, the tail drive pulley hits the airframe. Damned if I do and damned if I don't with this one. Either way, it can't be used in a flight worthy helicopter.

On the other shaft, the hole for the tail pulley holder pin is drilled slightly off centre and at an angle other than perpendicular to the shaft, which causes the tail pulley to sit crooked on the shaft and wobble severely when installed and spinning. Wobble being an undesirable thing in heli's, this one can't be used either. I couldn't even get it off the ground if it was built with this one - it'd shake itself to pieces as soon as I spun up the rotor.

I'm contemplating taking the shafts to a local engineering plant that I used to work in and having them machine me a couple with the correct tolerances from some stainless alloy bar stock. It'd be cheaper and easier than getting another two shafts from the manufacturer which may or may not be right this time :/

I should add that there are a very high number of unanswered threads on that forum, it's not just my thread sitting on its own in a sea of helpfulness towards every other member. It just seems to be quite an unhelpful place in general, especially the particular subforum that I've posted in. Oh well, can't blame me for trying

I'm afraid I'd have to take the ball lick on this occasion :( I don't get on well with spiders. I wouldn't say I'm afraid of them, but I do tend to kill each and every one that I see, especially the ones who are under the illusion that they share my workshop with me...

Was going to type something about the Justin Beiber thing, but I can't be arsed. What a dick. I'm no royalty fan person, but he does something to enrich the lives of others. JB enriches the lives of others too, through a lot of manufacturing.

Unicorn, what make of heli and which forums? There are a lot of fanboys in R/C (like everywhere else) who will take offence if their brand is "slandered."

I am a Royalist, being quite fond of Kate & Wills at the moment because I think they're good ambassadors for GB, but that has very little to do with the fact that I can't stand Justin Bieber's stupid cocky ass and his huge ego. I genuinely wish he would go away, for ever. I don't wish him harm or anything, but he deserves a successful music career about as much as I deserve to marry a supermodel.

Marvin - I don't want to name and shame the forum in question, but if you're any way connected to it yourself, you'll know that "I fly with -------". It's a Honey Bee King 2 from Esky that I'm building, except it's not a HBKII, it's been completely transformed and hardly resembles a King 2 any more. This shaft situation has really held be back - I could have been flying it by the weekend, but I've lost a week just figuring out what was actually wrong with these and discussing it with the supplier via email. I guarantee that I won't have this sort of problem when I come to build my Trex 450 later in the year

I would imagine that most would simply point their legal team at the supplier as the product is clearly faulty....

    IMHO

    dunx

P.S. I'd rather take on the spiders, as they are clearly well fed from eating something else crawly and horrible !

All the attention that so called singer is getting from this thread is highly demotivating.

Hmm, it may well be (not knowing the forum) that the regular posters see Esky as inferior and all fly Align/Thunder Tiger/etc so aren't going to help? I'd be interested to see if you posted a near identical thread about a T-Rex 450 and received advice or a reply at least...
