Before this turns from puns to religion wars...

Let me say that there's a fine line between "I don't support your beliefs because I see them as wrong" and "I don't support your beliefs because they ARE wrong." One is accepting another's beliefs, one is repressing.

 

I believe firmly in the first, and I say we should all point and laugh at those who push the second. Simples.

 

I used to agree, but what in the case of say, the belief that female genital mutilation is just and correct which exists across most of Saharan Africa?

I don't support their beliefs, and they are wrong. Some beliefs should be suppressed.

 

The truly depressing thing is that most religious people like yourself see the truth in that, but if that is the case then why do some extremist continue to get elected to high positions ? Why don't people realize that these people do not good for either side and simply stop voting for them.

Interesting way of seeing it, but in either case would it not from you perspective be the same? In either case you fully believe that the belief is wrong and the way you would act to fight this belief would be the same either way?

I can say it either way for example about the belief that I should be executed for cutting my beard or not believing in whatever god, but whatever way I say it I am still going to have to fend for my life.
