Not to say this isn't wrong within a supposedly largely secular society (or at least one that purports freedom of religion), but the good thing about being an atheist is that it's not like God is going to strike you down for betraying him if you say these words. You can indulge other peoples beliefs without fear of reproach should you see it necessary. Atheists can still graduate/claim to believe in Santa Claus.

I'm demotivated far more by pretty much everything in this shot that isn't the warning...so...messy...

Also, is saying "so help me God" actually that big of a deal...? It would hardly define someone as a Christian in anyone's book...

Also, hands up, how many atheists here present say omg on an ~hourly basis.

The temptation to post a photo to prove it is huge.

But, y'know, I'd rather not be banned.

So you wouldn't mind saying "Allahu Akbar" instead as a christian, right ? And yes, for some it is a big deal.

Being forced to lie may as an Atheist not have any godly punishment but some of us take just a bit of pride in being trustworthy and truthful, I know it is a rare thing in this world, Jersey shore and all, but there are a few of us left. :D

Not using omg but am using a few other expressions that mention the devil or a deity but while they mention god or the like what they mean is actually something differently entirely, with the main "emotion" of omg being surprise or disbelief. Sometimes these expressions are simply the only ones available that describe the situation without becoming overly complicated, omg is a lot faster than "oh I am currently in a state of disbelief and a slight amount of distress over the events that just occurred that significantly chocked me or did not fit within my previous expectations." :D

You may as well put "So help me Spider-Man" at the end of that oath. It doesn't actually mean anything - You're not saying that you believe in Spider-Man by saying that, so you're not lying.

Still, the whole thing sounds pretty weird even without the religious stuff...

Yep - I'd be in for that :thumb:

Edit: Why "Oh my (anything)" when instead you could use

By the time you'd say these words, you'd already be in deep **** :-/ Using 'OMG' will allow you to save a considerable amount of time, that you'll use to escape these cannibal flying south american monkey who are trying to devour your eye balls.

I usually take the stance that I won't care about someone's crazy beliefs, as long as they're not trying to impose them on someone else.
eg Don't like abortions? Fine, don't have an abortion then, but don't try and stop someone else from having one.

I'm hardly religious but I've been saying "Oh my god" for so long, it's burned into me.

However, if I see something amazing/ large I tend to say "jees!" or "chees!" (that's the way it's said :D) in a South African accent as my dad does. That's also been burned into me.

*The South African accent is epic. Especially when mixed with my Dad's former Italian accent.
