Unemployment benefits in UK are 64.3 GBP per week, that means around 275 GBP per month, that is 322 EUR per month. Well, that is the minimal salary in Slovakia, and with 3300 GBP / 3864 EUR per year you should still be in top 22.23% / 18.19% (i guess the exchange ratio on that site is not that good as the real one ). So how do you manage to get less than the unemployment benefits (unless you are a student with no income) ?

 

I did it by wealth rather than income which according to the site is more precise. Since I don't own my own home, or a car and I rent a part furnited flat.

If I do it by purely income it's higher but income doesn't show wealth, what you own shows wealth a lot more.

 

In that case did you include your share in your business as well ? In your case the "wealth" option is exactly the less precise, when you don't own anything except your business and you didn't include your business in your wealth. But if you wish to think that you are really in worse shape than you really are, go on.

 

I don't own or run a business, I own no shares, the only money I have is what I have in my bank account and my possessions both of which I included. I am a single disabled person living by my self. I have been honest with what I included.

Now this is sad, I don't work but I get 20 a week and I'd say I might earn 1k a year between jobs around the house, computer repairs for family and friends, parents randomly giving me money and it would work out to roughly 2k a year.

It's quite interesting how it all gets broken down. You hear all this stuff from the Occupy [insert something capitalist sounding here] crowd about the "1% -ers" and how they are "ruining everything with their corporate greed and corruption" or words to that effect and you immediately think that they are talking about the sort of people who are running huge multi national corporations or bankers in receipt of massive bonuses. This thread has shown pretty well that "the 1%" reaches far further down the earning scale than that.

I make just shy of £34,000 gross which works out to around £24,800 ish net after the usual taxes and student loan repayments and so on which puts me in the top 0.8%.

I saw that and my first thought was "Holy crap, I'm one of those "evil 1%" that they keep talking about", then I thought about what I do for that money and where it all ends up going (Engineer (and worth every penny... )and have a few repayments and stuff to clear off from a while back) and then think about the other 99.2% of the world and realise that sure I have things I need to pay and sure, I sometimes struggle a little at the end of the month when big bills come in but there are people all over the place who probably manage to live just fine on what I spend on bus fares in a week. That's the scary bit.

 

Remember that "the 1%" in the UK/USA is very different to "the 1%" globally!

 

To be fair to the American "Occupy" movement, they were talking about 99%/1% in USA only - but it just shows that it is only another "first world problem".
