College server, I am dissapoint:

you really need to write a 251kb worddoc.

 

How many students are at your college? We have about 700, but none of the servers are anywhere above 1TB in usage...

 

About 5000...

Julian, it went even further below that after I screenshot the thing. I know someone else has a screenshot at 1kb. For someone else it entirely filled up. We were just sitting in computing opposite the server room imagining a scene of people frantically trying to delete files and a guy shaking in the corner with a gun to his head going "There's nothing left we can do", as the server slowly hit 0.

We were actually having a countdown for the last 10mbs.

 

Well I guess that explains it! Slightly more interesting however is how the IT people thought that 2TB was enough for 5000 students. For the same 700 students we have 12TB of storage (storage is cheap!)

 

Probably the same type of people who allocated everyone on my Uni course a mere 250MB, then cut it to 100MB... and disabled the use of flash drives via group policy ¬_¬... They eventually upped to 1GB after some shouting but even then it wasn't enough...

 

Pfft, you guys have it easy; when I was at school, we were allocated 5MB for every student ( ~800 or so ), and had to beg to get more.....

 

Ha! When I was at school, we had to buy our own floppy disks!
You youngsters and your network shares...we had to cope with 700k on a floppy...

Pfft! When I were a lad, all we 'ad were clay tablets with a wedge shaped stamp.

Plus we had to wear a cuneiform.

I changed the login-screen picture to a picture of a a semi-nude Alley Baggett on 8 of the 12 computers in the computer-room at school the third week of school, the teacher took me aside and told me that he liked the picture, but due to the rules he had to ban me from the computers for the rest of the year...
Two days later he gave up on trying to change it back and asked me if I could do it, I said "I'm banned, so I cannot use the computers" we made a deal that I was unbanned if I fixed it..
We had to store everything we did on 3,5" discs, those were the times

 

I didn't see a computer in a school until my 2nd year of secondary school. We had 3 x BBC Model B and 5 x Link 480z. One of the 480z had a 5 1/4" floppy drive. I feel old.

 

My High School Computer Studies class used a teleprinter connected to the local college's PDP-8.
For my O-Level course, I wrote "Battleships" in BASIC.
My first job after leaving that same college was assembling Acorn Atoms (the predecessor to the BBC) from kits.
